Captivant confirmed for Guineas

Last season's Champagne Stakes winner Captivant will look to get his career back on track when he tackles the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.

Captivant captured the Champagne Stakes at his fourth campaign run in the autumn and tackles the Caulfield Guineas at the same stage of his current preparation and he is a 25/1 chance for the 1600-metre contest.

The talented son of Capitalist was also entered for this weekend's Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick, but after he drew barrier 14 of 17, co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have decided to send the colt to Melbourne for the Guineas, where he looks set for a clash with talented Group 1-winning pair Anamoe and Artorius.

Captivant has failed to get his head in front in three starts this preparation, first seen running third in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes, before finishing sixth in the Group 2 Run To Rose.

Snowden outlines Captivant chances

The colt most recently seen running seventh in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes, but Peter Snowden is confident the step up in trip will eke out improvement in the three-year-old.

"Getting out a bit further and they go a bit steadier midrace, he's a good chance to get up on the bridle and finish better," Snowden said.

"It's just the trip. He sprints well fresh but 1500, 1600 metres, that's the right trip for him so he should start to come into his own now."

Captivant will jump from barrier 14 in Saturday's $2 million contest at Caulfield.
