AFL: Carlton looking to build on Lions win

Carlton began the season with a thrilling victory over the Brisbane Lions and will aim to back it up with another four points against Richmond Tigers.

The Blues looked dead and buried against the Lions in Brisbane before coming from nowhere to snatch a thrilling one-point victory.

It is still very early days, but to prevail over Brisbane in their own back yard will give Carlton plenty of belief for the season ahead.

They can be backed at 8.00 to go all the way and win the grand final.

Richmond began the season with defeat at Gold Coast Suns, but there were some positive signs as they begin the rebuild under Adam Yze.

The MCG clash still represents a banana skin for Carlton and there can be no room for complacency in the Blues camp.

Blues hit by Docherty blow

Carlton got the season off to the perfect start with a hard-fought and miraculous one-point win over Brisbane Lions.

Brisbane did not lose a game on their own patch in 2023, so the win should give Carlton plenty of confidence.

Star forward Charlie Curnow was one of the main reasons Carlton managed to come from behind to take the win.

He helped turn the game when booting four goals and will be out to boost that tally against the Tigers.

Curnow won the Coleman Medal for most goals in the regular season in 2023 and on this form will be hard to stop again.

The Blues superstar is 5.00 to win the Coleman Medal in 2024.

It was not all good news in Brisbane however. Indeed they suffered a crushing blow with the news that Sam Docherty ruptured an ACL in the game and will miss the entire 2024 season.

Carlton already have injury issues, but the loss of Docherty has been described as a ‘kick in the guts’.

Tigers look to bounce back

Richmond got their campaign off to a disappointing start when they slipped to a 39-point defeat against Gold Coast Suns.

New Tigers head coach Yze admits that his side fell apart all over the park against the Suns, but is confident of getting a response against Carlton.

Shai Bolton did catch the eye with three goals in the opening game and will need to be on form again if the Tigers are to have any chance of pulling off an upset.

The clash between the two sides last season ended in a very rare 58-58 draw, and the game before they won by 15 points.

Both games were on home soil and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.

Carlton will be out to secure a heavy win and they can be backed at 3.35 to win the game by 40+ points.

The Tigers are 3.60 to cause an upset and win by 1-39 points.
