AFL: Carlton out to give Brisbane the Blues

Brisbane will be hoping home advantage once again pays off as they attempt to overcome Carlton and book a place in the AFL grand final.

The Lions, 2.75 to win the grand final, have been very impressive this season and it’s their remarkable record at the Gabba that has really caught the eye.

Chris Fagan’s men have won 12 from 12 on home soil, and one more will see them set up a grand final clash against Collingwood or Greater Western Sydney.

However, if any side is capable of triumphing in Brisbane, it is Carlton, as they are on fire after winning 11 of their last 12 games.

The Blues will be underdogs heading into the game, but that is a tag that could play into their favour and put pressure on the Lions.

There are some intriguing battles all over the pitch and we could be in for a tight game with so much at stake.

Brisbane out to break drought

Brisbane have been there or thereabouts over the last few seasons, but this could their big chance to go on and break the premiership drought.

They can be backed at 2.75 to do it, but first they must get past a Carlton side that are high on confidence.

The Lions are exceptional on home soil however and made light work of Port Adelaide in the qualifying final, beating them 123-75.

They have also beaten Carlton in each of the last three meetings, with 18 points being the smallest winning margin.

Carlton are a different animal these days but Brisbane will be confident of getting the job done and can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points.

Brisbane have an impressive forward line with both Joe Daniher and Charlie Cameron back in form. They can be backed at 8.50 and 9.00 respectively to boot the first goal of the game on Saturday.

Carlton enter the Lions den

Winning the premiership despite finishing outside of the top four, is a rare occurrence, but Carlton have a realistic chance of doing just that.

They have managed to see off Sydney and Melbourne so far in finals, but now it remains to be seen if there is enough gas in the tank to finish the job.

Winning at the Gabba is a huge ask, but Carlton have the players to upset the form book. In Charlie Curnow, they have the Coleman Medalist in their side, after he booted 80 goals this season.

Curnow can be backed at 8.00 to boot the first goal, but Carlton have threats all over the park, with Harry McKay and Tom De Koning also big threats.

McKay can be backed at 15.00 to get the first.

The battle in midfield will also be crucial and they will need big performances from Adam Cerra, Sam Walsh and Patrick Cripps.

Cripps’ battle against Lions counterpart Josh Dunkley will be intriguing to say the very least.

Cripps can be backed at 3.60 to produce 30+ disposals, while Dunkley is the same price.
