Chris Hamilton career so far

Hamilton first caught the eye as a 20-year-old while riding for the Australian UCI Continental team, Avanti IsoWhey Sports.

In the National Under-23 Road Championships in 2015, Hamilton won the Criterium, and a year later backed that up with a victory in the U-23 Road Race.

Also in 2016 he finished 7th overall in the Tour de Taiwan and 8th at the Herald Sun Tour, where he also won the Young rider classification.

It was not long before Team DSM, then known at Team Sunweb snapped him up on a professional contract in 2017.

A year later, Hamilton finished ninth overall on the general classification at the Tour of Britain.

In 2019 Hamilton finished 6th at the Tour Down Under and also won the Young rider classification at that event.

Hamilton’s one and only professional win came in 2023, when he was part of the DSM team that won the Team Time Trial on Stage 1 on the Vuelta a Espana.

He has come close to winning stages in his own right at the big grand tours.

In the 2021 Giro d’Italia he came second on a stage and has come third on two occasions at the Vuelta a Espana.

What does the future hold?

The future looks to be a bright one for Hamilton as he is under contract with DSM until the end of the 2025 season.

The aim for Hamilton will be to pick up his first professional win and it should only be a matter of time before that happens.

After riding the Tour de France and Vuelta Espana in 2023, Hamilton will be a key figure for DSM at the big races in 2024.

He may even return to the Giro, which he has raced on four occasions.

Romain Bardet remains the main general classification rider at DSM, and as long as the Frenchman is healthy, it means Hamilton will ride in support of his leader.

However he has a crucial role to play in protecting Bardet and should also get the opportunity to go stage hunting.

Hamilton will also target a number of other races throughout the season and will be looking for some podiums along the way.
