A-League: City hitting form heading into Unite Round

Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers will do battle in the second match of the ‘Unite Round’ on Friday night.

Unite Round was introduced to celebrate the men’s and women’s games and this weekend they will unite, with all fixtures being played in Sydney.

The clash between City and Wanderers will take place at CommBank Stadium and will be played after the match between Macarthur and Western United as part of a double-header.

Heading into the match, both sides are locked on 18 points, with identical records of won five, lost three, drawn three.

They are both in the thick of the title race and Friday night’s game is a big one.

City can be backed at 5.00 to win the minor premiership, while Western Sydney are available at 9.00.

City’s form is better heading into the clash, but there is little to separate them and we could be in for a close, exciting match.

City target three straight wins

Melbourne City finally appear to be back on track following a sluggish start to the season, and are now unbeaten in the last six.

They have also won the last two, when smashing Brisbane Roar 8-1 and then edging past Western United 2-1.

City showed great spirit when recovering from the setback of conceding an early goal, to take the win.

Terry Antonis grabbed the winner in the 82nd minute and he can be backed at 8.00 to score at anytime, while leading striker Jamie Maclaren in 1.90.

City do have a great record at CommBank Stadium and are unbeaten at the venue in the last three games, winning two of them.

The games between these two sides are usually high-scoring, and we could be in for more of the same on Friday night.

Over 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.57, while under is 2.35 if we get a rare cagey affair.

Wanderers due a win

Western Sydney remain on the sequence of win one, lose one for now, and if that continues then they are due a win against City.

Mark Rudan’s men slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Central Coast Mariners at CommBank last start, and will be determined to bounce back.

It will not be easy though as they have not beaten City in the last six attempts, losing four and drawing two.

There is a lot to like about Western Sydney this season however, they have bagged 19 goals and have the tightest defence in the A-League when conceding just 12.

Four of those came in one game when suffering a 4-3 home defeat against Melbourne Victory, but they are usually pretty solid.

At the other end, Marcus Antonsson remains their biggest threat in front of the goal, and the striker is 6.50 to grab the first of the game.
