A-League: City target win in the west

Melbourne City travel to the west to take on Perth Glory as part of a Friday night double-header in the A-League this week.

City have yet to hit top form this season and sit in an unfamiliar position of seventh place on the ladder, and are in need of three points against Glory.

They are still 6.00 to win the minor premiership but there is plenty of work to be done.

Last season’s other grand finalists, Central Coast Mariners, are also in action when they take on Western United.

The Mariners are doing even worse than Melbourne City and find themselves second from bottom, with only Friday night’s opponents below them.

Central Coast Mariners are showing signs of getting their act together and are unbeaten in two games after starting the season with four straight losses.

Both games have been on home soil when beating Newcastle Jets 3-1, before a 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory at the weekend.

They now have the chance to keep the run going and do have a good record against Western United.

Central Coast are undefeated in five against Western and have won the last four at home.

Alou Kuol grabbed a goal in the last game against Victory, and he can be backed at 2.60 to score at anytime against Western.

Western are having a torrid time, and after beating Melbourne City in the opening week, they have gone on to lose the next five.

They have yet to keep a clean sheet this season and over 2.50 goals in the game can be backed at 1.50.

Melbourne City picked up just their second win of the season when beating Newcastle 2-0 at the weekend and need another in the west.

They are seven points off top spot but with three home games to come after this one, they have a great chance to wrack up some points.

City have won the last two against Glory, scoring four on both occasions, and over 2.5 goals is available at 1.61.

Jamie Maclaren grabbed another goal against Newcastle and is 1.66 to score at any time, while Adam Taggart is Glory’s biggest threat and is priced at 2.75.

Glory have picked up all of their points at home this season and they did beat City 2-0 at HBF Park in 2022, so a shock cannot be ruled out.

Another 2-0 home win can be backed at 21.00.
