Premier League: Manchester City the team to beat once again

The Premier League takes a break due to the international fixtures, so it is time to reflect on the opening three games of the new season.

The 2024/25 Premier League campaign is in the very early stages, but already Manchester City look like the team to beat as they sit top of the ladder.

Liverpool could be the main challengers in the title race, while Arsenal are also in the mix.

Further down the ladder, it has not been a great start for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham, while the same can be said for Manchester United.

At the very bottom it looks as though Everton are going to be in for another long, hard season.

City leading the way

The Citizens have made a perfect start to the season by winning their opening three games to sit top of the standings as they chase a record-extending fifth consecutive league title.

Pep Guardiola's are once again the hot fancies to go on and win the Premier League title and can be backed at 2.10.

It looks set to be a three-horse race for the title, with Liverpool and Arsenal also set to be in the hunt.

The Merseysiders have made a very encouraging start to life without Jurgen Klopp, with new boss Arne Slot guiding them to three wins.

The Reds, who beat big rivals Manchester United before the international break, can be backed at 5.50 to go on and win the title.

Arsenal are viewed as the biggest threat to City and are priced at 3.00 to win the title.

However, the Gunners have already dropped points when being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton in their last game.

Newcastle off to a solid start

With Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool almost certain to be in the top four, it leaves one spot up for grabs.

At the moment Brighton occupy it after picking up seven points in their opening three games, including the point at Arsenal.

Whether they can last the course is another matter and they can be backed at 8.00 to finish in the top four.

Newcastle have also started well when picking up two wins and a draw to put them in fifth spot in the table.

Eddie Howe’s side can be backed at 3.50 to make the top four, the same price as Tottenham, who have stuttered to four points.

Chelsea also have four points from their three games and are 2.75 to recover and take a place in the top four.

The jury is out on Man Utd once again after they won one and lost two - they can be backed at 5.00 to finish in the top four.

Toffees in a sticky situation

It has been a disastrous start for Everton, who have lost all three of their games, conceding 10 goals in the process.

The Toffees are playing their last-ever season at Goodison Park and will be desperate to avoid the drop.

They are 2.62 to be relegated, with Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town all a shorter price as things stand.

Saints are also pointless and are 1.50 to be relegated, while Wolves have one point from three games and are also in the bottom three, with the Molineux outfit 3.50 to be relegated.
