AFL: Cold Pies need to warm up

Collingwood will look to wrap up the minor premiership against Essendon on Friday night and restore some confidence in the process.

The Pies have all of a sudden started to look vulnerable, losing three of the last four games, and have Brisbane breathing down their neck.

A win against the Bombers will get the job done however and they are boosted by the return of a couple of key players for the clash.

Essendon are still mathematically in with a chance of the top eight, but it would quite frankly take a miracle to get there.

Even so they will give it a shot and will have pride to play for if nothing else. The MCG will be packed and the competition will be fierce.

Bombers need a miracle

Essendon have made improvements under the leadership of new coach Brad Scott this season, but look like falling just short in the race to make the eight.

Their cause has not been helped by a poor run of results that has seen them lose three of the last five games.

They were smashed 162-36 by Greater Western Sydney last weekend and their confidence will have taken a hammering at the same time.

It will take a lot to bounce back, but it is the final game of the regular season and they will be motivated to put on a show for their faithful members.

There is still the possibility of a spot in the eight, but they would have to beat Collingwood by over 100 points and then also hope that other results go their way. It will not happen.

Kyle Langford will be a threat for the Bombers, having kicked 50 goals this season, and he is priced at 10.00 to boot the first on Friday.

Pies need to bounce back

Collingwood looked to have the minor premiership in the bag, but after last weekend’s results, it is still up for grabs as Brisbane put the pressure on.

Brisbane beat Collingwood 124-100 last weekend to close within four points, while the two sides share the same 123.2 percentage.

The Lions play St Kilda on Saturday but Collingwood could clinch it before a ball is bounced in that game.

Collingwood have leaked over 100 points in each of the last three games and will need to tighten up going into finals.

They beat Essendon by 13 points earlier in the season and can be backed at 6.00 to win by 13-24 on Friday night.

Collingwood were missing some big guns against the Lions last week, but they look set to return with Jordan De Goey and Bobby Hill in line to play.

However the game will come too soon for Nick Daicos, while Darcy Moore is expected to return for the first week of finals.

If all goes to plan that will likely see Collingwood take on Melbourne in a preliminary final.
