AFL: Collingwood ready to take down Eagles

Collingwood have the opportunity to make inroads into the AFL top eight when they take on West Coast at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

The reigning premiers have recovered from losing the first three games of the season and are now unbeaten in their last five.

Collingwood still have work to do but can be backed at 8.00 to go on and win back-to-back premierships.

The team they beat in the grand final, Brisbane, have failed to shake off their hangover and are down in 13th spot on the ladder after losing five games from eight.

They travel to Adelaide on Sunday to take on a Crows side who have an identical 3-5 win/loss record in 2024, but who appear to have found some form.

Brisbane can be backed at 15.00 to bounce back and win the grand final, but four points against Adelaide is a must.

Collingwood target the top five

. What: Collingwood v West Coast
. Where: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
. When: 14:00, Sunday 12th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel, Channel 7
. Odds: Collingwood 1.11, West Coast 6.50

Collingwood are looking up following a horror start to the season, and there is the possibility of jumping up to fifth on the ladder this weekend.

It will depend on other results going their way, but first of all they have to make sure they overcome the Eagles.

After losing the opening three games, there can be no room for complacency against West Coast, who have shown signs of improvement.

The Eagles almost picked up their third win of the season against Essendon last weekend but came up five points short.

Injuries have bitten into the Eagles squad and it will take a mammoth effort to pull off an upset at Marvel Stadium.

The loss of Jake Waterman, who has booted 24 goals so far this season, and Elliot Yeo, will be a massive loss to them.

Young gun Harley Reid will look to step up on another big stage and is 1.47 to kick a goal at anytime.

Collingwood can be backed at 6.00 to beat the Eagles by 73+ points.

Crows are finding some form

. What: Adelaide v Brisbane
. Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
. When: 17:00, Sunday 12th May 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Adelaide 1.70, Brisbane 2.18

Adelaide look to be a side on the up after winning three of their last four games, including the Showdown against Port Adelaide last week.

The Crows have a good run of fixtures coming up and now have the opportunity to boost their top-eight hopes.

When the two sides met at the Adelaide Oval this time last year, it was the Crows that won the game by 17 points.

They can be backed at 6.00 to win by 13-24 on this occasion.

Brisbane snapped a two-game losing streak when beating Gold Coast Suns last week, and need to back it up on the road.

They have shown they can do that when winning against Melbourne at the MCG earlier in the season and could do with the same again.

However, they will be hampered by an injury crisis that has robbed them of some key defenders, including Darcy Gardiner.
