NRL: Cowboys and Eels ready for huge showdown

The race to finish in the top eight of the NRL hots up on Saturday with a huge game between North Queensland Cowboys and Parramatta Eels on the menu.

There are three matches in total to look forward to and each team involved still has a shot of making finals as the regular season ticks away.

As well as the Cowboys versus Eels, Gold Coast Titans entertain Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights are at home to Melbourne Storm.

Most of the pressure is on the Roosters, Titans and Knights, as they have the most work to do if they are to make the top eight.

Two of the NRL’s most in-form teams are set to battle it out in Townsville on Saturday night and a place in finals is on the line.

The Cowboys have won the last five games on the bounce, while the Eels have won six from seven, so we could be in for a classic.

Home advantage could be crucial, but the Eels have shown they can win in Townsville when the pressure is on after beating the Cowboys 24-20 in last season’s preliminary final.

The Eels are priced at 7.50 to do the same again and win by 1-5 points.

Brad Arthur’s men face a very tough finish to the season with games against the Storm, Broncos and Panthers to come, so a win over the Cowboys would give them a huge boost.

They have won four of the last five games against the Cowboys and can take heart from that.

The Cowboys have won the last five games on home turf and Scott Drinkwater is a man in form with five tries in his past four games.

The fullback is priced at 2.33 to grab another at anytime on Saturday night.

Both the Titans and Roosters are almost in the last-chance saloon as far as making the eight is concerned.

Whoever loses on the Gold Coast on Saturday will face a massive uphill battle to make it, so the stakes could not be much higher.

Missing out is unthinkable for the Roosters, who were one of the hot fancies for the premiership at the start of the season.

They have won just two games away from home this campaign and need to make it three to stay in the hunt.

The return of skipper James Tedesco will help and the fullback is priced at 2.20 to grab a try at anytime.

Newcastle are in good form after smashing the Bulldogs 66-0 and backing it up with another win over the Tigers.

Now they face an even bigger test when they take on a Storm side that are sitting in fourth spot on the ladder after cruising past the Roosters last week.

The Knights have not beaten the Storm in the last 11 games, however. this could be their best chance as they have won five from seven on home turf.

They also have Dominic Young in hot form. The winger has scored 16 tries in his last 13 games and is priced at 9.00 to grab the first on Saturday.
