Australian Racing: Crazy Brave ready to star at Sunshine Coast

There are eight meetings set to take place on Sunday, including a ten-race marathon card at Sunshine Coast.

Race 6 Sunshine Coast

Crazy Brave @ 4.60

Race 5 Devonport Synthetic

African Thunder @ 5.50

Race 4 Muswellbrook

Florino @ 1.75

Brave to deliver Sunshine victory

The sixth race on the Sunshine Coast card is an intriguing Benchmark 62 handicap contest.

A soft 6 track is forecast for the 1200m contest, with Queen Assassin expected to have her supporters having won both starts since debuting with a second at Doomben in November.

The filly was spelled following a victory in a 1200m maiden handicap back at Doomben in November and had a barrier trial prior to returning at Kilcoy earlier this month.

That return saw the daughter of Better Than Ready deliver a length victory when racing close to the pace on a soft 5 surface.

While she has a good alley here the Annabel Neasham-trained gelding CRAZY BRAVE is preferred on this occasion.

Crazy Brave showed plenty of ability when runner-up in a 1200m maiden contest at Doomben back in November.

The third home that day has gone on to place in stakes company subsequently and the pick got off the mark first time up this spell when victorious by one-and-a-half-lengths at Eagle Farm.

That triumph came on a good 4 track earlier this month and he shaped like a decent performer on that occasion.

The switch to a wet track should prove no issue and Crazy Brave looks up to registering a first victory against previous winners.

Thunder rolling for Devonport success

Puma has placed second on four of his last five starts and is expected to jump as favourite for the fifth race at Devonport Synthetic.

The race in question is an 1880m Class 1 event, with John Blacker’s gelding beaten by a narrow margin when contesting a 1600m maiden at Hobart a week ago.

However, the son of Lionhearted is a 12 race maiden and looks opposable once more.

AFRICAN THUNDER is the pick here, having shown a liking for this venue when racing close to the speed prior to delivering a victory in a 1350m contest here three starts back.

The selection was breaking his maiden when contesting a maiden plate on that occasion, but failed to shine when tenth over 1650m when racing at this level subsequently.

The four-year-old performed better when beaten just over two lengths into sixth on a soft 5 track in a 1400m handicap at Hobart when last in action last weekend.

The gelding looks worth a try at this distance and is taken to successfully concede weight to his rivals in this event.

Florino to make it two out of two

The fourth race on the Muswellbrook card sees the exciting FLORINO make his second start.

The gelding delivered a debut victory here and looks capable of following up in this 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

Trained by Paul Messara the son of Mikki Isle gained plenty of experience in barrier trials, winning once and placing once from three starts prior to that debut success.

The selection raced close to the speed prior to asserting in the closing stages to finish just under one-and-a-half-lengths clear of her nearest rival in the 1280m event.

The three-year-old showed good speed on that occasion and should have no issues getting across from a wide barrier to race prominently, with Aaron Bullock again in the saddle.
