Australia v India third Test outright odds: Aussies favourites at the Gabba

Australia and India head into the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane locked at 1-1 in the five-match series after two contrasting contests in Perth and Adelaide.

The tourists were dominant in WA as they claimed a 295-run victory in the series opener, but the Baggy Green hit back to overwhelm India by ten wickets in a day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval.

That sets up the third match of the series at the Gabba perfectly and the Aussies are now strong favourites to win in Brisbane and also go on and claim a series victory.

Third Test odds

Australia - 1.61

Having been utterly dominant with the pink ball in Adelaide, the Baggy Green will take to the field in Brisbane full of confidence, however, there are still reasons to be concerned about their batting.

Travis Head is averaging 80 after his magnificent 140 in Adelaide, but no other Aussie batter is averaging more than 24.

New opener Nathan McSweeney has found life tough against Jasprit Bumrah and co, while Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith and Mitch Marsh have passed 50 just once in their 13 innings combined.

As usual there are no such concerns over the home bowling attack, with Pat Cummins (10) and Mitchell Starc (11) already into double-figure tallies for the series, while Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland have both taken five wickets in one appearance.

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon has not been used that much so far, but he has a record of 51 wickets in the 13 Tests he has played at the Gabba.

India - 2.87

India would have headed to Adelaide in good heart after a superb start to the series, but they were unable to match Australia as they maintained their record of having won every day-night they have played to date.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli scored centuries in the series opener, but no Indian batter passed 50 in Adelaide, with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scoring with 42 in both innings.

Batting conditions in Brisbane are unlikely to be too easy, so India will need to try and find a way to blunt the outstanding Aussie attack.

With the ball new-ball pair Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have excelled with 12 and 9 wickets respectively, but they need better support to ensure that the Aussie batters do not start to get on top.

Series odds

Australia - 1.66

Having recovered from losing the first Test, Australia are now hot fancies to go on and take the series honours, however, they will be only too aware that the last four series with India have all been lost 2-1.

That includes the last two series on Australian soil and the Baggy Green will be desperate to avoid an unwanted hat-trick.

India - 3.00

India will still be confident of heading home with a series victory in the bag, having claimed both of their recent wins in Australia by a 2-1 scoreline after the series were locked at 1-1 after two Tests.

The second Test spat between Head and Siraj will help to ensure that there is no let-up in intensity in the final two matches.
