Australia v India: 2nd Test preview

Australia will be determined to bounce back when they take on India in the second Test, which begins on Friday at the Adelaide Oval.

The Aussies suffered a big setback when they lost the opening Test in Perth by 295 runs, and need to hit back quickly if they wish to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

There has been talk of division in the camp following the loss, and the players will be keen to show they are united out on the pitch.

India will be on a high after their impressive performance at Optus Stadium and will be out to show the convincing win was no fluke.

A 2-0 lead in the series would well and truly put them in the box seat to win the series and the stakes are high at the Adelaide Oval.

Hazlewood blow for Aussies

Australia have suffered a setback ahead of the second Test with the news that Josh Hazlewood will be forced to miss out.

Hazlewood, who was Australia’s best bowler in Perth, has a side strain and although he might be available for the third Test, the day-night clash in Adelaide is a no-go.

The selectors now have a decision to make over a replacement, and it looks as though Scott Boland will get the nod.

Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett have also been added to the squad to provide some reinforcements as there are also doubts over the fitness of Mitchell Marsh.

Marsh is struggling with an ankle issue and a late call will be made on his inclusion. The West Aussie could just play as a specialist batter and skip bowling duties.

Beau Webster is also on standby should Marsh miss out completely.

Travis Head was the only player to score more than 50 runs in the entire match in Perth, and will once again be a huge threat to India.

Head has also dismissed talk of a rift between the batters and bowlers, and expects Australia to bounce back after a ‘bad week’.

Bumrah the man for India

Jasprit Bumrah was in outstanding form in Perth when ripping through the Australian batting order in devastating fashion.

Bumrah took 5-30 in Australia’s first innings and backed it up with 3-42 in the second to take the player of the match award.

India came good with the bat in the second innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 161 runs, while Virat Kohli finished on 100 not-out.

Both players will look to carry that form to Adelaide and will be in the hunt to finish as Team-Top Batter.
