Australia Women v England Women: Test Match preview

Australia Women will be out to complete an Ashes whitewash when they take on England Women in the only Test match of the series.

The Aussies have dominated the series when winning three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, and will now turn their attention to the Test format.

Unfortunately the day/night Test will be a one-off match at the MCG in Melbourne, but the Aussies will be keen to showcase their skills and finish on a high.

After being completely outplayed during the series, particularly in the third T20 international, England will be out to restore some pride in the Test match.

However the Aussies are the hot fancies to win the match and claim a 16-0 series whitewash.

Mooney stars for Aussies

Beth Mooney will be out to continue her rich vein of form when the Aussies turn their attention to Test cricket against England.

Mooney was the star of the show with the bat in the third T20 international when scoring 94 runs off 63 deliveries.

Now she will be looking to do similar during the pink ball Test match at the MCG.

Mooney is set to bat further down the order and take on wicketkeeping duties with Alyssa Healy battling with fitness issues.

Healy has a foot injury and if she fails to make the match, Mooney will give up opening the batting in favour of dropping down the order to cover.

Mooney should still be in with a great shout of finishing as Team – Top Batter and will also be in the hunt to claim player of the match.

Australia will also be missing Sophie Molineux through injury so legspinner Georgia Wareham could come into the bowling attack to partner Alana King.

If Australia elect to go with a seamer due to the pink ball factor, then Megan Schutt could be the one to get the nod.

Australia have also been boosted by the news that Ash Gardner is fit again after missing the T20 series.

England playing for pride

With Australia leading the series 12-0 and the Ashes in the bag, England’s main objective will be to try and restore some pride.

They put in their worst performance of the tour in the third T20I when they were skittled out for just 90 runs.

Only two players managed to reach double figures – captain Heather Knight and Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

England do have plenty of options and it will be interesting to see if the selectors make changes.
