Australia Women v India Women: 3rd ODI preview

Australia Women produced a couple of commanding performances to win the first two ODIs against India Women and they are aiming to seal a 3-0 series clean sweep in Perth on Wednesday.

The home bowlers proved too hot to handle in the series opener as India were bowled out for just 100 with pace ace Megan Schutt taking 5-19.

Australia completed a five-wicket win in the first ODI in Brisbane and their batters stole the show in the second game of the series at the same venue, where Ellyse Perry's 75-ball 105 powered them to a total of 371-8.

Rookie opener Georgia Voll also scored a century, in only her second ODI, and India never got going in the run-chase, posting 249 all out to lose by 122 runs.

Australia openers provide glimpse of bright future

Australia Women have a formidable pedigree in ODI cricket, winning seven of the 12 World Cups in the format, and their dominance looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.

Experienced campaigners Megan Schutt and Ellyse Perry have taken home the player-of-the-match award in the first two ODIs against India but the performances of young openers Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll suggest the long-term future is bright.

Litchfield, already an established star at international level, scored 35 and 60 in the first two ODIs while fellow 21-year-old Voll has made a stunning start to her maiden series for Australia.

Her unbeaten 46 off 42 balls was comfortably the highest score of the first ODI and she followed up with 101 from 87 deliveries in game two.

The youngsters have shared opening stands of 48 and 130 and Litchfield looks a worthy favourite in the Top Australia Batter market.

She loves batting against India, scoring 78, 63 and 119 in three ODIs in Mumbai just after Christmas last year, and she looks in excellent form once again.

Batting frailties point to another defeat for tourists

Defeats in the first two ODIs mean India Women have now lost 11 of their last 12 one-dayers against Australia and they are 5.00 to upset the hosts in Perth.

Their bowlers took a hammering in game two but there are also major concerns over their batting unit as Richa Ghosh's 54 is India's highest individual score of the series.

Shafali Varma has been dropped from the ODI side and Yastika Bhatia, another top-order player, is injured so India need their experienced batters to step up.

Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur have played 227 ODIs between them and Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma pose a threat in the middle-order.

But India have struggled against the pace of Schutt and Annabel Sutherland, who took 4-39 in the second ODI, and it would be a shock if they were able to avoid a 3-0 series defeat.
