Australia Women v India Women: Second ODI preview

Australia Women can wrap up the one-day international series against India Women when the two sides clash in Brisbane on Sunday.

The Aussies won the first match of a three-match series by five wickets at Allan Border Field on Thursday and can complete the job this weekend.

India will be determined to fight back after a disappointing performance with the bat which left the hosts with the simplest of tasks to wrap up victory.

Australia impressed and, if they can put in a similar kind of display, the third match in the series is likely to be a dead rubber.

This game will also be played at Allan Border Field before both sides head to Perth to play at the WACA Ground.

Schutt star of the show for Aussies

Megan Schutt ripped through the India batting line-up in the first match and was named player of the match and will look to carry that form on.

India had won the toss and elected to bat but may have been regretting the decision as Schutt made early inroads, dismissing both opening batters.

Schutt ended with figures of 5-19 from 6.2 over bowled as India were dismissed for just 100 runs inside 34.2 overs.

The rest of the wickets were shared around, but it was Schutt who made the headlines.

Australia made light work of the total, getting there inside 16.2 overs, with debutant Georgia Voll finishing on 46 not out after facing 42 deliveries.

Phoebe Litchfield was also among the runs when scoring 35 runs off 25 balls faced.

Australia have now won the last five matches against India and are the hot fancies to make it six.

India batting fails to fire

India lost some key players through injury in the lead-up to this series and the players who stepped in failed to shine in the first match.

Openers Priya Punia and Smriti Mandhana made just 11 runs between them and it remains to be seen if the selectors will tinker with the top order.

Jemimah Rodrigues top scored with 23 runs and, although the middle-order performed better, it was still nowhere near good enough.

Renuka Singh was the pick of the bowlers when taking 3-45, but again India will need more if they are to upset the form book on Sunday.
