Ashes Insight: England v India Test series: Dates, venues, how to watch, history & more

With the Ashes in Australia just a matter of months away, England have one final Test series to play and that is a five-match programme at home to India.

The action gets underway at Headingley in Leeds on Friday 20th June and runs all the way through to early August, with the final match of five taking place at The Oval in London.

Neither of these two sides reached the recent World Test Championship final and the tourists head into the series having seen both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli call time on their red-ball careers and Shubman Gill taking over as captain.

England v India Test series dates

As mentioned above the first Test at Headingley starts on Friday 20th June, before the teams move to Edgbaston in Birmingham for the second Test, which begins on Wednesday 2nd July.

On Thursday 10th July the two sides will step out at the Home of Cricket, Lord's, for the third match of the series, with the fourth Test taking place at Old Trafford in Manchester starting on Wednesday 23rd July.

Finally, England and India face off at The Oval, with the series finale getting underway on Tuesday 31st July.

England v India Test series venues

As befits a premier Test series, all five matches are being played at major grounds, with each of the five venues having staged Test cricket for well over a century.

Lord's was the scene of the very first Test match played by India and therefore also their first against England, with the hosts claiming victory by 158 runs back in June 1932.

India have won on two of their last three visits to Headingley, but have lost seven of the eight Tests they have played at Edgbaston, with the other ending in a draw.

As with Headingley, India have claimed two victories from their last three appearances at Lord's, while they are yet to register a victory at Old Trafford after nine previous visits.

The Oval has seen comprehensive wins in each of the last five Tests played between England and India at the ground, with four going the way of the Three Lions.
