Hobart Hurricanes Women v Adelaide Strikers Women: Big Bash Women preview

Hobart Hurricanes can keep the pressure on at the top of the WBBL ladder with a win over the struggling Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes made a big statement when thrashing the Perth Scorchers in their last match and now need to back it up at Ninja Stadium.

It is the first match of a double-header against the Strikers and gives them a great chance to cement their place in the top four.

Adelaide’s campaign goes from bad to worse and they look nailed on for the wooden spoon unless there is a big turnaround.

Lee on a high after WBBL record

Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee set a new WBBL record in the win over the Perth Scorchers, when smashing 150 not out off just 75 balls.

Lee reached her century from 51 deliveries and hit a total of 12 sixes, which is a world record.

The Scorchers had no answer and if Lee can stay in good form for the rest of the season, the Hurricanes will be a big threat.

Heather Graham also put in a solid display when finishing on 23 not out, before taking 3-24 as the Scorchers were dismissed for 131.

The Hurricanes do not have the greatest record against the Strikers, winning two of the last five games, but on current form they will fancy their chances.

The Strikers will be low on confidence and the Hurricanes are in the box seat to pick up their fourth win of Big Bash Women 2024.

Struggling Strikers rock-bottom

The Adelaide Strikers sit rock bottom of the WBBL ladder after suffering their fifth defeat in six games against Melbourne Renegades on Monday.

After being put in to bat, the Strikers made a solid 185-8 with Tahlia McGrath making 49 runs off 24 deliveries.

Smriti Mandhana made 40 runs off 25, but it was not to be enough as the Renegades made light work of the target.

They got there with 17 deliveries remaining to win by nine wickets, with Hayley Matthews finishing on 85 not out and Deandra Dottin unbeaten on 46.

Darcie Brown took the only wicket for the Strikers but conceded 43 runs off her four overs in the process.
