Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers: Big Bash Monday preview

Perth Scorchers will look to maintain their winning form when they make the trip to the Melbourne Renegades for Monday night’s showdown.

The Scorchers have won two of the last three Big Bash titles but fell short in the play-offs last year when beaten by the Adelaide Strikers.

An impressive knock of 64 from Cooper Connolly helped the Scorchers get the better of the Melbourne Stars in the opening game of the new season but they suffered a narrow defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes in their second clash, losing with four balls to spare thanks to a Mitchell Owen century.

Now they face Melbourne Renegades in the final BBL game before Christmas.

The Renegades lost to the Sydney Sixers in their opening game before skittling the Hurricanes for just 74 runs thanks to three wickets apiece from Will Sutherland, Fergus O’Neill and Tom Rogers.

Scorchers looking to continue red-hot form against these opponents

The Perth Scorchers have been one of the dominant teams in the Big Bash in recent years and there is nowhere that has been more evident than in their matches against the Melbourne Renegades.

The Scorchers have won the last six meetings between these two in this competition and are 1.82 to extend that good recent run with another success at the Docklands Stadium.

Jason Behrendorff will be playing in his 99th Big Bash fixture and will have to step up for the Scorchers after Jhye Richardson was called up to the Test team.

Behrenforff has figures of 2-21 and 1-19 from the two games this season and has a good record at Docklands Stadium, his BBL average at this ground is 11.41. He is a 3.75 chance to be the Scorchers’ top bowler.

McGurk looking to carry on progress

Jake Fraser-McGurk was one of the big stories in BBL13, hitting 18 sixes in just eight innings for the Renegades.

He has only managed one maximum in two innings of 21 and five in the new campaign. In fact, he has hit one half-century and is averaging only 13.33 from his last 18 T20 innings.

Nevertheless he is priced up at 5.00 to be Melbourne’s top batter in this game.

Will Sutherland already has five wickets in this year’s Big Bash, at a strike rate of 6.6 and the tall all-rounder is a 5.50 shot to be the Renegades’ top bowler once again in this matchup.
