Melbourne Stars face a big test of their WBBL title credentials when they entertain the Sydney Sixers on Friday.
The Stars were not considered serious contenders heading into the 2024 season but, after winning two of their opening three games, are right in the mix.
The jury is still out for some, but another victory over the Sixers will help to prove those doubters wrong.
The Sixers are still one of the hot fancies despite winning two and losing two, but they can ill-afford any more slip ups if they are to go all the way.
It means there is a lot riding on the clash at the Junction Oval and it is a contest that could go either way.
The Stars slipped to an opening defeat against the Scorchers in Perth, but have since bounced back to win their next two games.
One of those games was against the Sixers, beating them by 32 runs via DLS method, so they will be out to complete the double.
They followed that win up with a seven-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes, so confidence should be high heading into the Sixers clash.
Meg Lanning was the star batter in the win over the Sixers when finishing on 58 not out, while Rhys McKenna also scored 52 off 22 deliveries.
Yastika Bhatia has also caught the eye in the last two matches when scoring 36 against the Sixers, before following that up with another 57 runs against the Hurricanes.
The Stars have won two of the last three games against the Sixers and could do with another to keep the momentum going.
Sophie Day has been the pick of the bowlers for the Stars when taking five wickets over the three matches.
The Sixers bounced back from two defeats on the spin to beat Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday and need to back it up against the Stars.
It was a close one, winning by just six runs, but it should give them a confidence boost as they look to see off the Stars.
Once again Ellyse Perry continues to be the star of the show, this time smashing 86 runs as the Sixers reached 155-7 off their 20 overs.
The Canes then fell just short, making 149-9, as the Sixers just got the job done.
Caoimhe Bray, Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Cheatle all took two wickets each and will look to carry that form into Friday’s game.
