Sydney Sixers face Sydney Thunder in their last league-stage fixture on Friday and the rivals are already assured of their places in the Big Bash finals this season.
The Sixers, inspired by the return of opener Steve Smith from Test duty, went top of the standings after beating Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers in their last two games.
But David Warner's Thunder are also enjoying a successful season and they are aiming to snap a six-game losing streak in Sydney derby clashes.
The first Sydney derby of the 2024/25 Big Bash produced a thrilling finish as some fine lower-order hitting from Ben Dwarshuis helped the Sixers reach a target of 164 off the final ball of their innings.
That made it six victories in a row for the Sixers against the Thunder and they are 1.82 to extend their stranglehold on the fixture on Friday.
Steve Smith has been the star of the show in the Sixers' last two games, making up for the departure of leading runscorer James Vince with scores of 121 not out and 52.
All-rounder Dwarshuis, who took 2-26 before cracking an unbeaten 20 off eight balls in December's win over the Thunder, has also played a major role for the Sixers.
He has taken 10 wickets in eight games, including 4-32 against Brisbane Heat, and has showcased his batting power, hitting eight of the 56 balls he has faced for six.
Dwarshuis made a valuable 30, featuring two sixes, in the win over the Strikers last time out and he is 6.00 to hit the most maximums for the Sixers.
He can be backed at 15.00 to be Player of the Match, as he was in the first Sydney derby of the season, although Smith at 7.00 and Warner at 8.50 dominate that market.
Sydney Thunder had been well beaten by Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes before an impressive 61-run win over Perth Scorchers last time out.
That was a significant boost to morale going into the clash with the Sixers and the Thunder are 2.00 to claim a rare derby win on Friday.
There was a bizarre look to the Thunder scorecard against the Scorchers as opener Sam Konstas made 53 but the next five batters were dismissed for eight, eight, eight, one and six.
Number nine Tom Andrews played a match-changing innings, smashing 37 not out from just 12 balls before the Scorchers crumbled to 97 all out at the Sydney Showground Stadium with spinner Chris Green taking 3-13 from four overs.
Conditions at the SCG are likely to be better for batting and it is 1.83 that Sydney Thunder's highest individual score is over 55.5.
Opener Konstas has scored two half-centuries in four Big Bash innings this season while skipper Warner has made 86 not out, 49, 50, 88 not out and eight in his last five appearances.
