Sydney Sixers v Sydney Thunder: Big Bash Women preview

Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder are both bang in form heading into Sunday's Big Bash derby clash at the iconic SCG.

Both teams have picked up six points and are right in the mix to win the 2024 WBBL title, so there is a lot on the line.

The Thunder are riding the crest of a wave after winning the last three games and crucially they have played one game less than their arch rivals.

The Sixers will also be feeling good about themselves after winning the last two.

Perry continues to shine for Sixers

Ellyse Perry was in top form once again as the Sixers beat the Melbourne Stars by six runs in their latest match.

She has been averaging just under 72 runs a match over the last 10 matches in the WBBL and was 48 not out against the Stars.

It was a joint effort on this occasion as Amelia Kerr finished on an unbeaten 46, as the Sixers made the 104 runs needed to win via DLS method.

Earlier, Kerr also took a couple of wickets, but it was England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone that finished as team top bowler with 3-18 off her four overs.

Kerr was named player of the match and will be looking to carry that form into a massive game against the Thunder.

The Sixers have won three of the last five meetings between the two sides and could do with another one to keep the heat on at the top of the ladder.

Thunder target four in a row

The Thunder currently sit top of the WBBL ladder after winning three of their four opening games.

After losing the opener, they have gone on to beat Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat in convincing fashion.

Now they will be looking to do the same to the Sixers and have the players in form to get the job done.

Heather Knight was the star of the show in the last win when smashing 59 not out off just 34 deliveries.

However it was bowler Samantha Bates, who was named player of the match after taking 4-25 off her four overs.

Phoebe Litchfield has also scored 49 and 40 runs in the last two matches and will be another player the Sixers will be keen to dismiss early.
