Sydney Thunder will get the opportunity to establish themselves at the top of the WBBL ladder when they take on the Melbourne Stars on Wednesday.
The Thunder have five wins to their name and are currently the hot fancy to go on and win Big Bash Women 2024.
But the wins need to keep coming and they should get the job done against a Stars side that has lost the last four games on the bounce.
While there is still hope, albeit slim hope, of making the top four and playing finals, the Stars will continue to battle and will be no pushovers.
The Stars have already beaten the Thunder this campaign which should give them confidence heading into the re-match at Drummoyne Oval.
Sydney Thunder picked up a point in their last match after the derby clash against Sydney Sixers was abandoned due to the weather.
It may have turned out to be a blessing as for once this campaign they struggled to put on some good runs.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the Thunder were bowled out for just 121 runs, with Georgia Voll top-scoring with 29 runs.
Phoebe Litchfield also made 28, but it was well below the standards that the Thunder fans have come to expect this season.
Samantha Bates did get an early break through before the rain came in, but the Thunder will probably be happy to take a point that keeps them top.
The Thunder have won two of the last three meetings, but will be out for revenge as the Stars did win the last one.
The Stars have already beaten the Thunder this season, and now have the chance to complete a surprise double.
They have only won two games all season, but one of them was a seven-wicket win on 13th October.
It was a low-scoring affair as the Stars restricted the Thunder to 103-9 off their 20 overs, before reaching the target with 40 balls remaining.
Sophie Reid was named player of the match after scoring 46 not-out, while Tess Flintoff was also 33 not-out.
Things have not gone so well since then and the Stars have lost the last four games on the bounce, including a six-wicket loss to the Brisbane Heat on Saturday.
