Aussie Rules: Crows hoping to snap losing streak

St Kilda face a tricky trip to Adelaide to take on a Crows side who will be keen to end a run of two straight defeats on Sunday.

Both of these two sides have made an encouraging start to the 2023 AFL campaign, but results have been indifferent over the last few weeks.

Particularly for Adelaide, who have slipped down the ladder following back-to-back defeats and who are in need of a response on home turf.

St Kilda remain in the thick of things at the top of the ladder, but they have suffered two defeats in their last four games.

A victory for Ross Lyon’s side would cement their place in the top four, while Adelaide could move back into the top eight if they win and other results go their way.

Crows hoping for home comforts

Adelaide kicked off the new campaign with two defeats, before going on to win the next four games on the bounce.

That run of results raised hopes among the long-suffering supporters that 2023 could be the year they return to the top eight and play finals.

However back-to-back losses has brought everyone back down to earth. In fairness the defeats have been against Collingwood and Geelong, two sides who could win the grand final this year.

Adelaide also took Collingwood to the wire at the Adelaide Oval, before losing by just one point. And then in round eight there was no shame in a 26-point loss away at reigning premiers Geelong,

So Matthew Nicks’ side should still have plenty of confidence heading into the game against St Kilda as they are still playing good footy.

The Adelaide Oval has been kind to them so far this season. They have won three times at the venue, with one of those wins technically an away game against Port Adelaide in the derby.

They have also picked up wins over Carlton and Fremantle and, apart from the narrow loss to Collingwood, the other home defeat came in round two against Richmond.

Key forward Taylor Walker has been in form for the Crows when booting 18 goals so far this season and he is priced at 1.12 to score at anytime during Sunday’s game.

Adelaide have been hit by the news that key defender Nick Murray will have to miss the clash through concussion.

Coach Nicks says Murray has been a 'rock' for his side this season and now he needs to find a way to replace him.

Saints missing King

St Kilda will be without Max King once again after deciding to give him an extra week to recover from the shoulder reconstruction he had in pre-season.

The tall forward is close to making a return, but Saints say patience is the key and feel he will be best served with another week of training under his belt.

In the meantime Lyon’s men need to find some consistency again after going on a win one, lose one sequence, in recent weeks.

There has been nothing in the defeats however. Port Adelaide beat them by seven points, Collingwood by six, so Saints will not be reaching for the panic button.

They head into the game on the back of a win over North Melbourne, but will face a much sterner test against the Crows.

Saints have played once at the Adelaide Oval already this season and that was the narrow defeat to the Pies in the Gather Round.

Their record against Adelaide is good, though. They have won two of the last three meetings and both were at the venue.

They won by 21 points and 23 points respectively and can be backed at 7.00 to win by 13-24 points on Sunday.
