Australian Racing: Cusack ready to roll at Rockhampton

There are four meetings taking place on Tuesday including Newcastle, where they stage a seven-race card.

Race 6 Newcastle

Fortress Australia @ 5.50

Race 1 Quirindi

Seeni @ 4.00

Race 4 Rockhampton

Cusack @ 4.40

Fortress for Newcastle success

The penultimate race on the Newcastle card is an interesting 1300m maiden contest.

A good 4 track is expected for the race, with Vomo Island expected to prove popular with punters following three placed efforts in his first spell racing.

The most recent of those saw the son of Dundeel beaten one-and-a-half-lengths into third in a 1400m handicap on a soft 5 track at Randwick at the end of May.

Trained by Peter & Paul Snowden the colt raced just behind the speed on that occasion and while rating highly here is expected to find FORTRESS AUSTRALIA too strong.

The 5.50 pick is race-fit having made his debut with a sixth over 1200m at Canterbury when racing on a soft 5 track just over a month ago.

The gelding followed up that effort with a good second when racing prominently in a 1400m maiden on a good 4 surface at Kembla Grange August 12th.

Trainer James Cummings arrives here in great form with his representatives, boasting a 30% strike-rate (30/43) in the last 30 days, while his runner here has a fair alley in barrier eight.

Jean Van Overmeire, on board last time out, is again in the saddle and, with the shorter distance here unlikely to inconvenience his mount, looks up to breaking his maiden at the third attempt.

Seeni to break maiden

The opener at Quirindi is an interesting 1200m affair, with Tayla The Sailor expected to jump as favourite on her first start since May.

The filly showed good form when placing third at Muswellbrook on debut, but failed to reproduce that effort in two subsequent starts.

The most recent of those saw her finish six lengths eighth over 1300m in a maiden at Scone, a race in which she raced from off the pace in.

Trained by Tim McIntosh she placed third in a trial back at Muswellbrook earlier this month but looks opposable from barrier nine.

SEENI, at 4.00, is taken to get the better of the Divine Prophet filly having shown good form in placing in two of his last three starts.

The second of those placed efforts saw him beaten half-a-length when runner-up in a 1000m maiden contest at Tamworth last week.

That Tamworth effort came when racing from off the pace on a good 4 track and he has shaped as if a step up to 1200m would suit in recent starts.

Cusack for Rockhampton glory

CUSACK takes the eye in the fourth race at Rockhampton.

The race in question is a 1400m Class 3 handicap, with the selection having shown good form in delivering a half-length success in a 1300m Class 2 handicap at this circuit earlier this month.

Trained by Jared Wehlow, the pick finished strongly from off the pace, having been ridden with restraint on that occasion.

The 4.40 gelding has performed well at a higher level in the past, having been beaten less than two-and-a-half-lengths when fifth in a 1200m metro handicap at Caulfield in July last year.

Ashley Butler, on board for the gelding's two most recent starts, is again in the saddle while the pick has the forecast going, a good 4, in his favour.

Barrier five is a further positive with regards the gelding’s chances and he looks capable of delivering win number three.
