Giro d'Italia odds update: Del Toro holds the advantage

The peloton are enjoying one last rest day before they embark on a brutal final week of racing at the Giro d'Italia.

With 15 stages of racing done and dusted, the battle to win the first grand tour of the season is tight and too close to call.

But everything will be decided this week when the Giro heads into the high mountains.

Some say the Giro starts now and it looks sure to be a demanding and exciting week of action, with one or two plot twists very likely.

Let's take a look at the latest outright odds for the general classification.

Giro d'Italia

Giro d'Italia outright odds

Isaac Del Toro - 1.66
Juan Ayuso -
3.75
Richard Carapaz -
5.50
Simon Yates -
10.00
Egan Bernal -
17.00
Primoz Roglic -
34.00

Isaac Del Toro - 1.66

Young Mexican Isaac Del Toro is currently in the pink jersey, leading the Giro by 1 min 20 seconds from Visma-Lease a Bike rider Simon Yates.

Del Toro has looked the strongest rider throughout the race, but there is still a question mark over whether he can see the job through.

He has been very active at the front of the peloton, chasing down attacks, and it could come back to bite him in the final week.

The Giro is set to enter the high mountains and Del Toro may have been wise to conserve some energy for them.

Juan Ayuso - 3.75

Juan Ayuso is a team-mate of Del Toro at UAE Team Emirates-XRG and was the designated leader heading into the Giro.

Del Toro now has that mantle and it will be interesting to see how UAE play the situation in the remainder of the race.

Ayuso has been riding a little more conservatively compared to Del Toro, who he trails by 1 min 26 seconds.

He could have been saving himself for the mountains and will surely be allowed to go for the win if he is looking stronger than Del Toro.

Richard Carapaz - 5.50

Richard Carapaz, a former winner of the Giro, is 2 mins 7 seconds behind Del Toro, but still looms as a big danger.

The Ecuadorian has a stage win under his belt and has looked sprightly when an opportunity to attack has presented itself.

The EF Education-EasyPost rider will relish the mountains and will be ready to go on the attack if Del Toro and co show weakness.

Simon Yates - 10.00

Simon Yates is another who will still have his eye on winning the Giro as they head into the final few stages.

He has also been riding conservatively, saving energy, and is within touching distance of Del Toro ahead of the brutal climbs.

The Englishman loves the mountains and is sure to be a big player with the general classification up for grabs.

Egan Bernal - 17.00

Egan Bernal is another former winner and has shown that he is back to his best following the horrific injuries he suffered in a crash several years ago.

His Ineos Grenadiers team have been very active at the Giro and Bernal has shown he has the legs to compete for the podium at least.

The Colombian is 3 mins 38 seconds behind, so catching Del Toro will be tough, but he is sure to give it a good go.

Primoz Roglic - 34.00

Primoz Roglic was the hot fancy heading into the race, but more crashes and more bad luck have left him way off the pace.

The 2023 winner is 3 mins 53 second behind and, although he cannot be written off, the injuries he is carrying are likely to scupper his chances.
