Australian Racing: Dance Ready for Echuca success

There’s racing from both Echuca and Goulburn on Monday, with a bumper ten-race card scheduled for the first of those two venues.

Race 10 Echuca

Dance Ready @ 4.80

Race 3 Goulburn

Naval Commission @ 2.40

Race 8 Goulburn

Encroachment @ 4.60

Echuca finale suits Dance Ready

The finale at Echuca is an interesting Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place over 1600m on a soft 6 surface.

Top weight Artrese is expected to have his supporters, having won by a head when contesting a 1300m Benchmark 58 handicap when racing at Geelong first up this spell.

The gelding came from the rear of mid-division when victorious on that occasion in the shape of a horse who would have no issues with a return to 1600m having run well over the trip in his last spell.

Stepped up to 1600m at Sandown Hillside subsequently it was no real surprise to see him struggle in a metro contest having jumped at big odds June 10th.

This looks a more suitable level, however Jack Hill’s mount DANCE READY is preferred on this occasion.

The 4.80 pick proved that he can compete at a higher level when placing third, beaten less than four lengths in a Benchmark 70 event over 1600m at Sandown Lakeside in May.

The six-year-old followed that effort up with a three-and-a-half-length third under his jockey here when contesting a Benchmark 64 contest on a soft 7 surface at Swan Hill last month.

A below par fourth-place finish in a seven-runner contest held on a heavy 9 track at Sale followed, though it’s worth forgiving that effort.

Freshened since running at Sale the son of More Than Ready is taken to return to winning ways here.

Commission to conquer Goulburn

The third at Goulburn is an interesting 2140m Class 1 contest.

A good 4 track is forecast at the New South Wales venue, with Aldeenaary looking to return to register a first victory since switching hemispheres.

The John O’Shea-trained gelding won over 2012m at Nottingham when training in the UK and, while he failed to shine in his first two starts since making the switch, he showed improved form last time.

That latest effort saw the gelding beaten just over two lengths into ninth in an 11 runner 2100m Benchmark 64 contest held on a soft 6 track at Hawkesbury.

The quicker going forecast here shouldn’t be an issue however NAVAL COMMISSION is selected to deliver a victory for the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace team.

The three-year-old has shown improved form this spell, saluting by just under half-a-length in a 1400m maiden on a heavy 8 track at Nowra prior to two placed efforts.

The most recent of those came when beaten two lengths into third in a Benchmark 58 contest on a soft 7 track at Mudgee July 2nd.

Tackling the 2000m distance for the first time at Mudgee, the gelding shaped as if he would prove effective over further and he is the 2.40 pick to double his career tally.

Encroachment set to shine

ENCROACHMENT looks capable of delivering his first victory in the penultimate race on the Goulburn card.

The race concerned is a 1400m maiden plate, with the pick coming into this contest on the back of a fourth in an 1100m contest at Gosford June 22nd.

Freshened since that effort the son of No Nay Never had placed second when beaten less than a length in a maiden on a soft 5 track over the same course and distance previously.

Trained by Matthew Smith, the 4.60 three-year-old has a good draw here and shapes as if the step up in distance will suit.

The booking of Jean Van Overmeire is a positive and the pick is taken to deliver his first career success.
