PDC World Championship history

Following a major split in darts, the first PDC World Championship was held in 1994 and was won by Englishman Dennis Priestley, who beat compatriot Phil Taylor 6-1.

Taylor would gain revenge with four final victories over Priestley in the next six years and would go on to claim the title an amazing 14 times, as well as losing five finals.

Next on the list is Michael van Gerwen with three world titles - won in 2014, 2017 and 2019 - while Gary Anderson, Adrian Lewis, John Part and Peter Wright are all two-time champions.

There are only six other players who have been crowned world champion - Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price, Priestley, Michael Smith, Raymond van Barneveld and defending champion Humphries.
