Australian Racing: Deel Street on the road to victory

There are seven meetings set to take place on Sunday including a metro fixture at Devonport Synthetic.

Race 7 Devonport Synthetic

Dramazing @ 6.00

Race 8 Narromine

Deel Street @ 10.00

Race 5 Sunshine Coast

Prophets De’vine @ 3.40

Dramazing to resume with victory

The penultimate race on Devonport Synthetic’s eight-race synthetic card is an interesting 1350m Benchmark 76 handicap.

Sharma’s Last is expected to have plenty of supporters having won four of his six previous starts.

Those four victories include both outings this spell, most recently when saluting by just over three-quarters-of-a-length in a Benchmark 68 handicap over this course and distance.

The gelding usually races from off the pace and, while he has the services of regular pilot Erica Byrne Burke, he looks vulnerable in this race.

The drop in trip is a concern for DRAMAZING, with the mare yet to race over this short a distance.

However, she was competing for success in stronger events in her last spell and has won first up in the past.

Those first up victories included a length triumph in a 1400m Benchmark 68 handicap on grass at Launceston, while she subsequently placed in the Sheffield and Devenport Cups over further here.

Off the track since a down-the-field effort when jumping at big odds for the Group 3 Hobart Cup over 2400m at Hobart in February, she trialled well over 800m earlier this month.

Jockey Anthony Darmanin rode the pick in all bar one of her starts last spell and looks capable of steering her to a first up victory.

Street for Cup success

The Narromine Cup, due off as the eighth race on a nine-race card, is the day's highlight at Narromine.

Madeline Owen’s mount Two Big Fari shoulders top weight here and is expected to jump as favourite for the 1600m open handicap contest.

The soft 5 going forecast is in the gelding’s favour, with the eight-year-old having shown solid placed form at metro level, including when third in the Big Dance Wild Card at Randwick last October.

A fifth in the 20 runner Little Dance over 1600m at Randwick followed and while, not at his best in two starts this spell, he has been racing in metro contests.

Trainer Connie Greig has her horses in good form with a treble from four runners at Louth eight days ago, preceding three placed horses at Dubbo last Sunday.

Greig saddles DEEL STREET here with the mare having performed well in Cup races here in the past, including when third in the 1300m Diggers Cup in April.

While you have to go back to last October to find the pick's latest victory, she boasts a strong four-from-nine record at the 1600m distance and goes well on soft going.

Anna Roper takes a valuable one-and-a-half-kilograms off her back and, while she has a wide alley here, her hold up style of racing should mean that doesn’t cause her too many issues.

Prophets to salute at Sunshine Coast

The fifth race of the day at Sunshine Coast plays host to our third selection with PROPHETS DE’VINE looking capable of getting off the mark in the 1400m maiden plate.

Trained by Annabel Neasham the pick showed good form in placing twice at this venue in her first spell racing.

The daughter of Divine Prophet also delivered a respectable fifth-place finish when tackling a maiden over this distance at Eagle Farm in February.

The four-year-old is usually ridden from off the pace and performed well when beaten less than a length into fourth in a 1400m handicap here two weeks ago.

That effort came on a soft 5 track and the slightly quicker going, a good 4 expected here is in her favour.

Ben Thompson has a good barrier in four and his mount looks up to delivering her first victory.
