AFL: Demons and Lions clash in Friday night blockbuster

Friday night footy is a big one this week with high-flying Melbourne and Brisbane clashing under the lights at the MCG.

Melbourne sit fourth on the ladder, Brisbane third, but there is a big gap between the two sides and the home side will be looking to close it.

The Demons also have a number of teams breathing down their neck and they will be keen to get the win to help cement their place in the top four.

Brisbane will also be looking up and will be hoping to close the gap on the top two, Collingwood and Port Adelaide.

It has all the makings of a cracking game as both the Demons and Lions will be ready to leave it all out there on the MCG pitch.

Melbourne are still struggling to find the kind of consistency that will turn them into genuine premiership contenders.

The Demons have already suffered six defeats this season, including two on the bounce in recent weeks.

A shock home loss against Greater Western Sydney will have set alarm bells ringing but they did bounce back well with a win over St Kilda last week.

Melbourne have been involved in a number of close encounters this season and there was only two points in it against GWS.

They also beat Collingwood by just four points at the MCG and we could be in for another close game on Friday night.

Melbourne are priced at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points, while the Lions are 5.50 to win within the same margin.

Melbourne’s home form has been solid this season and only GWS and Fremantle have managed to leave with the points.

Christian Petracca will be key for Melbourne. The midfielder is averaging 8.5 score involvements a game this season and the Lions will have to keep a very close eye on him.

Lions hope to sure travel sickness

The Lions sit in third place on the ladder and still harbour hopes of catching Port Adelaide and Collingwood, who they still have to play.

Brisbane are bang in form when winning the last four games, but three of those have been at home. They did win at St Kilda but before the run started, slipped up at Hawthorn.

Chris Fagan’s side have lost four games this season, and all four have been away from home, so a clash at the MCG against Melbourne, will be a huge test.

However they did win there in 2022, beating Melbourne by 13 points, and they also beat them by 11 points at the Gabba in 2023.

Joe Daniher has booted 39 goals this season and is priced at 9.50 to boot the first of the game against Melbourne.

Lachie Neale will also be key as he is averaging almost 29 disposals a game this season. The Brownlow Medallist is priced at 1.15 to produce 25+ against Melbourne.
