AFL: Demons out to cement top-four spot

Melbourne will be looking to cement their place in the top four on Sunday, while Adelaide have work to do to make finals.

There are three games to look forward to on Sunday and Melbourne versus Adelaide at the MCG has a lot riding on it at the top end of the table.

Making the top four is crucial to your premiership hopes and Melbourne are keen to hold on to it, while the Crows will be desperate to take their season into September.

Greater Western Sydney and the Gold Coast is another big game as both sides push for a place in the top eight.

St Kilda are already there, sitting sixth on the ladder, but they cannot afford any slip ups against a struggling North Melbourne side.

Melbourne have got their season back on track thanks to important back-to-back wins over Brisbane Lions and St Kilda.

The game against the Lions last week could have gone either way, but they edged a thriller 105-104, and need to build on it.

They do have a good record against Adelaide, winning two of the last three games. The last time they met at the MCG was in 2021 and the Demons won by 41 points.

Melbourne are priced at 6.50 to win by 37-48 points in the latest clash on Sunday afternoon.

Adelaide’s finals hopes have suffered a setback with back-to-back losses against GWS and Essendon.

The Crows do not travel well and have won just one game outside of Adelaide this season.

They do have Taylor Walker and the forward, who has kicked 50 goals this season, is priced at 9.50 to boot the first against the Demons.

Greater Western Sydney are on a hot streak after winning their last five games on the bounce to take them to the edge of the eight.

They have knocked over some big teams in the process, including Melbourne, and could be peaking at just the right time.

The Giants have also won the last two games against the Suns on home soil, but will have to do it at Manuka Oval in Canberra on this occasion.

Gold Coast may be 13th on the ladder but they are just one win away from finals and can edge closer with the four points on Sunday.

They picked up a big win against St Kilda last weekend and are priced at 5.50 to win this one by 1-12 points.

St Kilda are in sixth spot on the ladder but have managed to win just one game in the last five.

It is not the kind of form you want approaching the business end of the season and they will be hoping to get back on track against the Kangaroos.

The alarm bells will be sounding if they don’t as North Melbourne have picked up just two wins all season and have lost 13 on the bounce.

These two sides have already met this season with St Kilda winning by 30 points at the same venue, Marvel Stadium.

They are priced at 5.50 to win by 25-36 points.
