Dilution to break maiden

The fourth race on the Hawkesbury card is the most valuable race of the day with 13 currently set to go to post for the 1000m maiden handicap.

The Joseph Pride stable celebrated a big race win with Think About It in The Everest at the weekend and they look to hold strong claims with Storm The Ramparts here.

The three-year-old has shown good form in his four starts to date, placing third in three of them, including when beaten less than a length over this trip at Randwick Kensington.

The gelding followed that effort up with a fourth in a valuable set weights contest over 1100m at Wellington on 26th March and he has trialled well ahead of this contest.

However, DILUTION is preferred in this contest, having shown plenty of ability when narrowly beaten in a 900m maiden at Newcastle on debut last month.

The pick tracked the speed prior to losing out to a fellow debutant, who has gone on to register a victory on his only subsequent start.

A number of those in behind have acquitted themselves well since with the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth all delivering top-four efforts on their next start.

Tommy Berry’s mount has a good barrier here and, with the extra distance expected to suit, Dilution looks capable of breaking his maiden at the second time of asking.

Venture to defy top weight

The fifth race of the day at Echuca is an interesting 1200m Benchmark 64 handicap, with Punch Lane expected to jump as favourite on his first start this prep.

Trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, the gelding broke his maiden over 1300m at Seymour in April prior to delivering a third at Sandown Lakeside the following month.

That Sandown Lakeside effort came when tackling a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap and a soft 7 track and he switches to a provincial contest dropping back in distance here.

Preference here is for the race-fit top weight CHOSEN VENTURE, who registered his second career success when winning a Benchmark 64 handicap over 975m at Swan Hill on 19th September.

The pick shaped as if he was worth a try at this distance when crossing the border to deliver a half-length second in a 1000m Class 2 handicap at Morphettville Parks 11 days later.

Trained by Nathan Hobson, the gelding has a good barrier four off the rail here and looks capable of registering his third career success.

Manzoni to salute

MANZONI is expected to jump as favourite for the fourth race on the Moruya card.

The race in question is a 1425m Benchmark 58 handicap event, with the top weight having shown up well when a length third over this track and trip in a higher grade at the end of last month.

The gelding appeared to appreciate the drop down from metro racing on that occasion, with the extra distance also appearing to suit Natalie Jarvis’ inmate.

While the Jarvis stable are without a win in over a month, it’s of note that they have been knocking on the door of late, with their last four runners all finishing in the places.

Promising apprentice Emma Ly takes a valuable three kilograms off and she looks up to steering the son of Street Boss to a third win in 11 career starts.
