Australian Racing: Euphoria for Zouphoria at Doomben

There is plenty of racing action set to take place on Saturday, with Doomben hosting the sole Group contest, with the Group 3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate their feature race.

Race 7 Doomben

Zouphoria @ 5.50

Race 9 Moonee Valley

Peace Treaty @ 2.10

Race 6 Randwick

Stonecoat @ 5.50

Zouphoria backed for Plate success

The previously mentioned Group 3 Magic Millions Vo Rogue Plate for three-year-olds is set to take place as the seventh race on a ten-race card.

The 1350m event is expected to see Show Me Mercy jump as favourite from barrier two, having finished in the first three in each of his four starts this spell.

Those efforts include a one-and-a-half-length win in a 1200m Benchmark 70 handicap on a good 4 track at Eagle Farm at the end of September.

The gelding was given a break following that effort and, while he could finish only third in the Listed Channel 7 Gold Edition Plate over the same track and trip, he caught the eye that day.

Stuart Kendrick’s youngster had a number of his rivals here behind him that day, however he is unproven on the forecast soft 7 track and the filly ZOUPHORIA is the pick here.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, she finished outside the first three in her two starts at two, including when down the field over 1200m at Canterbury in May.

However, she trialled well ahead of her seasonal debut at Canterbury and took a step forward when runner-up over 1100m on a good 4 track that day.

The 5.50 pick has won both subsequent starts, including when making all the running to score by over two-and-a-half-lengths in a 1400m maiden at Randwick Kensington at the start of the month.

That maiden success came on a soft 7 track and she duly followed up over the same trip on the main track at Randwick December 16th.

A wide alley is a slight concern here she has the services of the experienced Craig Williams and the pair are taken to salute here.

Treaty ready for Valley victory

The $175,000 VOBIS Gold Carat over 1200m is the most valuable contest on the Moonee Valley card.

The three-year-old set weights affair is expected to see Capulet prove popular for the Tony & Calvin McEvoy team.

The filly registered a number of good placed efforts earlier this year prior to delivering her first victory when switched to the synthetic track at Ballarat.

The daughter of Extreme Choice broke her maiden by half-a-length in a 1200m contest on that occasion and jockey Harry Coffey, on board that day retains the ride.

However, she has been allocated barrier eight here and PEACE TREATY is the pick with Damian Lane set to ride.

The selection has won two of her three starts to date with all three of those efforts coming on wet tracks including when saluting over 1100m on a heavy 10 track at Ballarat on debut.

The 2.10 pick put a defeat over this trip at Cranbourne behind her when recording a narrow victory in a Benchmark 64 handicap over this distance at Mornington December 13th.

The Anthony & Sam Freedman team can boast an impressive 32% strike-rate (12/38) in the last 30 days and their representative can help them improve on that.

Randwick suits for Stonecoat

Randwick are set to stage a ten-race card and STONECOAT ticks plenty of boxes in the sixth race of the day, a 1600m Benchmark 78 handicap.

The selection was a track and trip winner in a similar race to this when racing on a soft 5 surface first up in his last spell.

That victory took the gelding’s first-up record to two wins from three starts and he acquitted himself well in all three subsequent outings, including when third in a Benchmark 88 handicap here.

The 5.50 pick has prepped for this event with three efforts in barrier trials including over 1200m here earlier this month.

Stonecoat has regular pilot Adam Hyeronimus in the saddle here and, with no obvious pace rival, the pair look capable of making all the running here.
