FA Cup: Spurs set for City cup clash

After a disappointing run of results in December, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur appear to have turned a corner as they prepare to face Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday morning.

With just one defeat in their last seven, with five wins and a draw in that spell, Postecoglou has managed to steady the ship in north London.

The Australian tactician would like nothing more than to claim a piece of silverware this season and the FA Cup looks to be their best shot.

It certainly won’t be easy though on Saturday against a City side that lifted the FA Cup last season, along with the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

Reinforcements closing in

Spurs’ last game came back at Old Trafford, with Tottenham twice coming from behind to grind out a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Saturday provides an opportunity to take on the blue side of Manchester and try to knock the Citizens off their stride.

Spurs have had more than their fair share of injuries this season, while they will also go into this game without Heung-min Son, with the South Korea star away on international duty at the Asian Cup.

However, some of Tottenham’s first-team players are edging closer to a return, with high-profile signing James Maddison one of them.

The England international saw his strong start to life at Spurs interrupted by an ankle ligament injury he suffered against Chelsea back in November.

Maddison is nearing a return, as is Manor Solomon from his knee issue that has kept him out on the sidelines.

Ryan Sessegnon is also said to be in contention but the match will come too soon for the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies, Alejo Veliz and Alfie Whiteman.

These sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the Premier League back at the start of December and another goal fest might well be on the cards this weekend.

Spurs are 5.00 to win, while another stalemate is available at 4.33. Over 3.5 Total Goals to land again is also 2.20.

City finding their rhythm

Unbeaten in their last five Premier League games (4W, 1D), while also claiming the FIFA Club World Cup in December, Pep Guardiola’s City have started to find their stride.

City will have enjoyed their winter break, with their last game being their 3-2 win at Newcastle United on 14th January.

Kevin De Bruyne’s return from a long-term hamstring injury has also given City a tremendous lift as they push towards the business end of the season.

The Belgian midfielder returned in the FA Cup third round win over Huddersfield Town and will get the opportunity for more minutes against Spurs this weekend.

City are 1.61 to win in the 90 minutes in north London, while De Bruyne is available at 4.00 to score Anytime in Saturday’s clash.
