NRL: Finals on the line in derby clash

Gold Coast Titans and North Queensland Cowboys will battle it out in the big derby clash on Sunday, with a place in the finals on the line.

The Cowboys are in much better shape to make the eight as they sit seventh on ladder, but the Titans remain in touch and could boost their chances with a win on Sunday.

There is not much to separate those sides pushing for finals and every game between now and the end of the season is crucial.

As well as valuable points, there is also plenty of pride at stake in front of what is sure to be a packed Cbus Super Stadium.

The electric atmosphere will add to the occasion and we look all set up for an exciting derby showdown.

Titans facing uphill battle

The Titans will be keen to bounce back after suffering a disappointing 36-18 defeat against the Roosters last week.

They conceded 30 points in the first half, but can take heart from the way they bounced back in the second half to prevent a blow out and make the score respectable.

Gold Coast are four points away from the top eight and their chances of making it look slim. However a win over the Cowboys will boost confidence and their chances of playing finals.

Their run-in is a tough one however, with games against the Panthers, Warriors and Sharks to come. It makes this game even more important.

Cbus Super Stadium has not been a happy home for the Titans, who have lost four of the last five games at the venue.

But at least AJ Brimson likes playing against the Cowboys, scoring seven tries in the last nine games against them.

The fullback is priced at 3.30 to grab a try at anytime in the game.

Cowboys look for seven on the spin

The Cowboys are flying after winning their last six games on the bounce, including a 24-16 victory over the Parramatta Eels last week.

North Queensland moved into the top eight with the win and the aim now will be to stay their over the remaining games of the regular season.

They do have tough games against the Broncos, Sharks and Panthers on the horizon, so once again this game takes on extra importance.

The two sides met earlier in the season with the Cowboys winning 24-12. They can be backed at 10.00 to match it again and win by 11-15 points.

The Cowboys have however suffered a big blow on the injury front with State of Origin ace Jeremiah Nanai picking up an AC joint injury against the Eels.

North Queensland have dominated this derby clash for some time now, winning 13 of the past 16 games.

Scott Drinkwater is in fine form with six tries in his past five games and can be backed at 11.00 to grab the first try on Sunday.
