Big Bash: Five players catching the eye

It is still very early days in the Big Bash League but already a number of players are standing out with their performances.

Brisbane Heat currently sit top of the ladder after winning two of their opening three games, and are priced at 4.33 to win the competition.

The Sydney Sixers have won their opening two games and can be backed at 4.50.

It is already looking like it will be a long season for the Melbourne Stars, who have suffered heavy losses in their opening two games and can be backed 2.37 to finish bottom.

But for some it has been a strong start. Let’s take a look at which players are standing out early on.

Colin Munro

The opening batsman for Brisbane Heat has wasted no time in catching the eye in his two innings so far.

Munro has smashed 145 runs, with a top score of 99 not out in the opening match against Melbourne Stars the highlight.

The former Perth Scorchers star also tops the list when it comes to most sixes and fours in the competition.

Munro has smashed seven sixes and 11 fours and if he can carry on in such form, the Heat could be in for a big season.

He can also be backed at 7.50 to be the Top Batter in the Big Bash League.

Ben Dwarshuis

Sydney Sixers have a strong bowling attack, but when it comes to wickets taken, Dwarshuis is leading the way so far.

The 29-year-old has taken five wickets when helping the Sixers to victory in the opening two games.

His economy rate of 7.12 leaves room for improvement, but when it comes to taking wickets, Dwarshuis is up there for now.

He is priced at 1.95 to be Team – Top Bowler.

Mitchell Swepson

Swepson is another bowler that is standing out after also taking five wickets in two matches for the Brisbane Heat.

The spin bowler has also posted some of the best figures in BBL 13 so far when taking 3-23 in 3.1 overs against Melbourne Stars.

Swepson can be backed at 4.50 to be Brisbane Heat’s Team – Top Bowler, but there is strong competition in that department.

Xavier Bartlett

Like Swepson, Bartlett is also shining for Brisbane Heat and has five wickets to his name from the opening two matches.

Bartlett also posted excellent figures in the win over Melbourne Stars when taking 3/35 off his four overs bowled.

He is also in the battle to be Brisbane Heat’s Team – Top Bowler and is priced at 3.20 to take the honour at the end of the campaign.

The Heat are definitely sharing the wickets around however as Matthew Kuhnemann, Michael Neser and Paul Walter have all taken three each.

Tom Curran

Curran has taken three wickets in his two games but deserves a mention as he has posted the best figures so far.

He took all three wickets in one game, a six-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes, conceding just 19 runs in the four overs he bowled.

He is also one of the most economical bowlers with a rate of 5.25. Curran is 5.00 to be Team – Top Bowler.
