Five things we learned from 2024 NRL season

The 2024 NRL season came to a conclusion on Sunday with the Penrith Panthers once again proving that they are the cream of the crop.

The NRL season never disappoints and 2024 was another epic campaign from start to finish.

Let’s take a look at the five things we learnt from 2024.

Panthers are the GOAT

Following their fourth grand final victory in a row, the Panthers have proven that they are the greatest side of all-time.

To win four consecutive grand finals during the salary cap era is nothing short of remarkable.

Over the four seasons some of the best players in the NRL have moved on to pastures new due to the salary cap, but the Panthers have been able to replace them.

New players have come through the ranks to help fill the void, while the Panthers have also recruited well.

They were not at their absolute best in the regular season, but they have made a habit of peaking at just the right time and who is to say they cannot make it five on the bounce in 2025.

Storm still had a great season

Melbourne Storm will have been very disappointed to lose the grand final, but can be pleased with their season on the whole.

They finished top of the pile to win the minor premiership and were just beaten by the better side on the night in the grand final.

But the Storm have a side packed with quality and, with Craig Bellamy staying on as coach for 2025, you can be sure they will be in the mix once again.

Both the Storm and Panthers are 4.00 to win the 2025 NRL grand final.

Teams cannot afford to rest on their laurels

Just ask Brisbane Broncos who were in the 2023 grand final and who were moments away from winning it before Penrith staged an incredible fightback.

The Broncos were expected to be in the mix again, but ended up missing out on finals altogether.

They were not helped by injuries, while a couple of key players leaving at the end of last season also hit them hard.

Kevin Walters has since lost his job and Michael Maguire will be the man to lead them in 2025.

However, the Broncos showed no matter how good you are one season, you cannot take your eye off the ball the next.

Tigers remain bottom of the pile

Despite another shake-up at the joint venture with Benji Marshall at the helm, Wests Tigers still ended up with the wooden spoon.

There were some signs of progress, but at the end of the day they could still only manage six wins all season.

The long-suffering Tigers supporters will now be praying that the arrival of Penrith superstar Jarome Luai can help spark a revival in 2025.

NRL is as exciting as ever

There is always a tinge of sadness when the NRL season is over, because it is just so good to watch, week in, week out.

The world’s greatest rugby players are on show and there is never a dull moment.

The good news is, the game just seems to get better and better each season, so we should be in for an even bigger treat in 2025.
