Australian Racing: Foresti can chop down the competition

There are three meetings set to take place on Tuesday with racing from New South Wales (Newcastle), Victoria (Hamilton) and Queensland (Townsville).

Race 9 Hamilton

Feargal @ 6.00

Race 5 Newcastle

Gold Pattern @ 3.80

Race 6 Townsville

Foresti @ 6.00

Feargal for Hamilton success

The finale at Hamilton is an interesting-looking Benchmark 64 event set to take place over 1600m on a heavy 8 track.

Street Delight is expected to have her supporters having registered her best effort since resuming from a break when third at Casterton earlier this month.

That Casterton effort saw the Street Boss filly finish just over a length behind the winner when racing at this level in a 1400m event on a soft 5 track.

Trained by Symon Wilde, the filly is proven on softer services having finished a fair fourth on a heavy 10 at Warrnambool when racing over 1400m 10 days earlier.

Street Delight has also placed second on a heavy 9 surface when contesting a 1300m event at Bendigo last October, but from barrier nine she looks opposable.

FEARGAL is preferred on this occasion having shown a liking for this venue when winning over 1400m here in April last year.

The pick came home one-and-a-half lengths clear of his rivals on a soft 5 track that day, but he has shown he is effective on softer going placing on four of his seven starts on ground described as heavy.

Jarrod Fry’s mount heads into this contest in good form having placed on each of his last three starts including over 1600m when runner-up at this level when racing at Stawell on 16th May.

The barrier draw of eight is a slight concern given his running style, but he is taken to overcome that to record a fourth win in 30 starts.

Pattern to break maiden

The most valuable race on the Newcastle card comes up as the fifth race of the day, a 1400m maiden. A heavy 9 track is expected for the three-year-old-only contest with Occhiata expected to have her supporters having gained plenty of experience so far.

The Gabrielle Ellis-trained filly placed twice in December - including when third on a soft 6 track over 1200m at Beaumont when last in action just before Christmas.

Prior to that, she had finished a close second here having finished in mid-division when eighth in an 1100m maiden plate at Hawkesbury when resuming on 18th May.

The filly will need to take a step forward from that effort if she is to take this event and GOLD PATTERN is selected to get the better of her here.

Trained by John Thompson, the pick showed improved form when finishing third in a maiden event over 1350m on a good 3 track at Beaumont in November.

That Beaumont effort marked the pick's second career start and following a couple of barrier trials at Randwick, she resumed this time around with a fifth over 1100m at Wyong.

That Wyong effort came on a soft 5 track and while the Pariah filly has yet to encounter a heavy surface, she has a good alley here and can break her maiden at the fourth attempt.

Forseti for Townsville success

The sixth race at Townsville takes the eye with Forseti boasting impressive track and trip stats in the 1609m Benchmark 65 contest.

Trained by Georgina Bourke, the pick is the winner of three of his eight starts over the course and distance including when racing at this level on his penultimate start.

The five-year-old subsequently went on to deliver a third-place finish when beaten just under one-and-a-half-lengths in a Benchmark 70 event over 1830m at Home Hill.

The return to 1609m is no issue here, while a good alley in two is a positive with regards his chances.

The gelding has shown fair form on heavy tracks in the past and back at his favourite venue is taken to salute under Jackson Murphy.
