Furuhashi setting lofty targets

Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi has said he plans to try and beat Odsonne Edouard's record for the club last season as he tries to help the Hoops compete for silverware.

The Hoops have fallen to sixth in the Scottish Premiership after some surprise results of late, and they are now 5/2 to win the league title.

Bhoys playing catch-up

Without Furuhashi, Celtic may be in an even worse position, with the Japan international scoring eight times in 11 appearances since he moved to the club in the summer.

The former Vissel Kobe ace has missed five matches due to injury, but those setbacks have not slowed down his progress.

Four of Furuhashi's goals have come in the league, but he plans to beat Edouard's tally, with the now Crystal Palace striker scoring 18 times for the Hoops last season.

Furuhashi sets the standard

The 26-year-old is confident he can help Ange Postecoglou's team up the table, and he is ready to challenge himself in order to get the job done.

He told Japanese outlet Number Web: "First of all, I would like to score more than 20 goals this season.

"It's a club that is considered to be the top two in Scotland, so that should be normal.

"Last season Odsonne Edouard scored 18 goals in the league, so I want to exceed that.

"I'm a teammate, so I'm just grateful that the team trusts the players right after joining. Whether it's as a forward or out wide, I have a strong desire to get results in my given position."

The Celtic frontman is currently away on international duty ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Australia, and he will hope to play his part in Celtic's next league match against Motherwell on 16th October.
