Australian Racing: Gal looking good for Nowra glory

There are three meetings set to take place on Monday, with heavy tracks forecast for both Nowra and Beaumont and a good 4 surface expected at Thangool.

Race 7 Nowra

Deni Gal @ 3.20

Race 4 Thangool

Yubetido @ 2.70

Race 5 Newcastle

Peaceful Prince @ 2.40

Deni Gal not to be denied

The finale on the Nowra card is a competitive 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap, with Ferrari Girl expected to have her supporters having shown good form in recent times.

The four-year-old is the winner of two of her last three starts, including by nearly two lengths in a Benchmark 50 handicap over 1220m at Tumut last month.

The filly completed a double when stepped up to this trip for a Class 2 handicap at Tumbarumba, prior to losing out back at Tumut when contesting a Benchmark 74 handicap earlier this month.

All three of those victories came on good 4 surfaces and she is set to tackle a heavy track for just the second time in her life.

While DENI GAL has yet to salute on heavy going, she has delivered a number of highly creditable efforts in testing conditions, including at metro level at Rosehill in July 2022.

The 3.20 selection was beaten less than one-and-a-half-lengths when fifth in a 1200m Class 2 handicap that day and she has won at this venue since when scoring over 1100m in April last year.

That course success came in a Benchmark 58 handicap on a soft 5 track and she returned to this venue for the first time since when three lengths second over this trip on 11th February.

The pick finished well from off the pace on a soft 6 track that day and looks capable of helping trainer Terry Robinson improve on his 38% strike-rate (5/13) here in the last 12 months.

Yubetido to complete a hat-trick

Thangool are set to stage a 1400m Benchmark 55 handicap as the fourth race on their seven-race card.

Deelosh looks likely to jump as favourite, having demonstrated good form in registering three consecutive third place finishes since winning by two lengths at Kilcoy in December.

The mare contested a Benchmark 62 handicap over 1500m at Kilcoy and was beaten less than a length in a 1300m Benchmark 62 handicap at Sunshine Coast when last in action on 2nd February.

The daughter of Mikki Isle is making her first start for new trainer Glenda Bell, having previously been with Chris Anderson and preference is for hat-trick seeking stablemate YUBETIDO.

Regular pilot Warwick Satherley takes the ride on the gelding who saluted by two lengths when contesting a 1615m Benchmark 55 handicap at Emerald on his penultimate start.

The 2.70 pick completed his double when successful by a narrow margin over 1600m in a Rockhampton Benchmark 55 handicap, again racing on a wet track.

The expected good 4 surface is no issue to the selection here, who came home third in a Benchmark 50 handicap on a good 3 track at Rockhampton just over a month ago.

The six-year-old will jump from next to the rail here and is taken to complete his hat-trick.

Prince to rule at Newcastle

Annabel Neasham sends PEACEFUL PRINCE to Newcastle for the fifth race of the day, an 1150m maiden contest.

The gelding has delivered two solid efforts to date, including when losing out by a narrow margin when debuting over 1000m at Kembla Grange last month.

The 2.40 three-year-old faded late on when beaten four-and-a-half-lengths in an 1100m maiden event at Canterbury subsequently, with both of those efforts coming on good 4 tracks.

While untested in race conditions on wet tracks, a win in a 900m barrier trial on a soft 6 surface at Rosehill bodes well with regards to his chances here.

Formerly based in the UK, Stefano Cherchi was on the mark for the Neasham stable at Orange on Saturday and his mount here looks up to breaking his maiden at the third attempt.
