AFL: Gather Round fixtures locked in

The fixtures for the 2024 campaign have yet to be announced but the AFL have unveiled the schedule for the Gather Round.

The Gather Round will take place in round four of the competition, with every AFL team heading to Adelaide for a bumper four days of action.

The 2023 Gather Round was a huge success with the crowds packing into three venues across the state to see nine AFL fixtures.

Let’s take a look at the schedule for the 2024 Gather Round.

Gather Round venues

All games in 2023 were sold out and just over 268,000 supporters flocked through the gates over the four days of action.

60,000 supporters travelled in from other states.

The same is expected in the 2024 edition and once again the fixtures will be played at three different venues to share the love around South Australia.

The games will be hosted by the Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval and Mount Barker, in the Adelaide Hills.

Five of the nine games will take place at the Adelaide Oval, while Norwood Oval and Mount Barker will host two each.

Thursday fixture

Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide have been handed the prime-time slots to get the Gather Round up and running on Thursday and Friday night.

The Crows will get the action underway when they take on Melbourne at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday 4th April, with a 19:10 start, local time.

Adelaide just missed out on finals last season and will be out to force their way in during the 2024 season. They can be backed at 15.00 to win the grand final, while Melbourne are more fancied at 8.00.

Friday’s fixtures

Port Adelaide also have one of the best spots of the Gather Round when they take on Essendon at the Adelaide Oval at 19:40 on Friday 5th.

Port hope to be in the mix once again this year and are 11.00 to go all the way, while a spot in finals would be a big success for the Bombers.

The other game on Friday will see last season’s grand final runners-up, Brisbane Lions take on North Melbourne at Norwood Oval. 16:40 bounce.

Saturday’s fixtures

On to Saturday 6th April and there are three games to look forward to, with Mount Barker in the hills, hosting it’s first game.

That will see Sydney Swans take on West Coast Eagles at 13:00, before the action switches to the Adelaide Oval for a double header.

Carlton and Fremantle will go head-to-head in the first match at 15:30, before a showdown between Geelong and Western Bulldogs follows at 19:40.

Sunday’s fixtures

There are also three games to wrap up the Gather Round on Sunday 7th April.

Mount Barker will host its second and final game when the Gold Coast Suns take on Greater Western Sydney at midday.

Then it is back to the Norwood Oval for a clash between the Richmond Tigers and St Kilda that gets underway at 14:50

Reigning premiers Collingwood will play the last game of the Gather Round when they play Hawthorn at the Adelaide Oval.

Collingwood can be backed at 5.00 to go on and win the 2024 grand final.
