With franchise cricket becoming the main attraction around the globe, the latest addition to the cricketing calendar is the 20-over Global Super League, with the inaugural tournament starting in Guyana in late November.
Five teams will take part in the first staging of the competition, with each side playing each other twice before the top two in the standings meet in the final and Australia will be represented by Victoria rather than a Big Bash franchise.
The inaugural Global Super League is scheduled to start Tuesday November 26th, with Guyana Amazon Warriors set to take on Lahore Qalandars in the opener.
The final will take place on Saturday December 7th.
The entire tournament is taking place at the Providence Cricket Stadium in, Guyana.
The venue is a regular on the Twenty20 cricket circuit and has staged matches at both the 2010 and 2024 men's T20 World Cups, as well as the 2018 women's T20 World Cup.
Five teams will take part in the Global Super League and the format could not be more straightforward, with all five teams playing each other twice in a group phase before the top two progress to the final.
The five teams confirmed for this new tournament are:
Guyana Amazon Warriors - Caribbean Premier League
Hampshire Hawks - T20 Blast, England
Lahore Qalandars - Pakistan Super League
Rangpur Riders - Bangladesh Premier League
Victoria - Australian state side
The Amazon Warriors won the CPL title in 2023 before losing out to Saint Lucia Kings in the 2024 final, while they have been runners-up on a further five occasions.
The Hawks won the T20 Blast in England in 2022, while as the Royals they were crowned champions in both 2010 and 2012.
The Qalandars won the PSL title in both 2022 and 2023, with the second of those successes clinched by a thrilling one-run final victory over Multan Sultans.
The Riders won the BPL back in 2017, while earlier this year they lost out in the play-offs to the eventual champions, Fortune Barishal.
Victoria are the only one of the five teams who are not a specific T20 franchise - they have won the Sheffield Shield 32 times and are six-time winners of the one-day cup in Australia.
Coverage of the Global Super League has yet to be finalised and will be announced closer to the event starting.
This is the first-ever running of the Global Super League, so whoever comes out on top will be the first champions to put their names on the trophy.
