Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar preview: Goals could be at a premium

Rock-bottom Perth Glory have the chance to record back-to-back victories when they take on draw specialists Brisbane Roar on home soil on Tuesday.

Perth will be looking to extend a three-game unbeaten run at Macedonia Park and know that three points on Tuesday would leave them in contention to challenge for a place in the top six this season.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side beat Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 in their last match and, despite still being at the foot of the A-League standings, have only played three games at home so far this term and seven away.

Brisbane Roar are unbeaten in their last eight games though after edging past Melbourne Victory 1-0 in their most recent encounter and will be extremely difficult to beat.

Solid Roar will be tough to beat

Brisbane have recorded three victories so far this season, against Sydney FC, Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Victory, while former Glory star Carlo Armiento is their leading scorer with three goals.

Irish midfielder Jay O’Shea has found the net twice and is 13/5 to Score At Anytime on Tuesday.

A-League: Can anyone stop Melbourne City?

Perth lost four of their first five fixtures this season but have improved of late picking up seven points from their last five matches since they were thrashed 4-0 by Melbourne City in the final game before the World Cup.

Keegan Jelacic scored the only goal of the game against Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday while Adam Taggart is 13/2 to Score The First Goal against Brisbane.

Goals could be at a premium in the match as none of Roar's last five matches have featured more than two goals. They have recorded two 1-0 wins and three 1-1 draws in those encounters. Another 1-1 draw on Tuesday can be backed at 11/2.

Despite seven places currently separating the sides, Glory will cut the gap to fifth-placed Brisbane to two points with a win, while the visitors could move up to third with another victory. Perth now sit level on points with second-from-bottom Melbourne Victory and will move into ninth with another win on Tuesday.

Glory will need to be at their best

Warren Moon’s Brisbane side are the only A-League outfit not to lose an away game yet this season and can be backed at 13/2 to edge to a 1-0 victory in Perth.

Glory are expected to make at least two changes for the match as Salim Khelifi picked up a groin injury against Western Sydney Wanderers and Luke Bodnar also had to be substituted. Joseph Forde and Zachary Duncan look set to replace the duo. Meanwhile, Mark Beevers and Ryan Williams will need to pass fitness tests to see if they can feature against Moon's battling side.

Former Burnley, QPR and Southampton striker Charlie Austin left Brisbane last month after scoring four goals in 11 appearances for the club so Armiento and Nikola Mileusnic are expected to start in attack again for Moon’s men.

In their 25 previous visits to Perth, Brisbane have won on 10 occasions and have triumphed in three of their last four matches against Glory, including a 4-1 win in their most recent meeting.

This season Brisbane have only scored nine goals and conceded seven in their 10 A-League matches. They can be backed at 2/1 to keep a clean sheet against Perth.

Brisbane have kept four clean sheets already this season and have only conceded more than one goal in one game to date - the 2-0 loss at home to Melbourne City in mid-October.

The Roar were without captain Tom Aldred in central defence against Melbourne Victory on Friday but his replacement Connor Chapman played well in his absence alongside Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Scott Neville and Jack Hingert.

A low-scoring encounter appears to be a likely outcome in this clash and it is not inconceivable that a goalless draw at 8/1 is played out.

Under 2.5 goals in the game is available at 8/11 while Perth Glory are 6/5 to Score The First Goal.
