Can Jason Day win a Major in 2025?

Australia has a proud history of producing Major champions. Adam Scott's 2013 Masters victory meant an Aussie name was on all the Major trophies, but will there be more success in 2025?

Cameron Smith is the last Australian Major winner - the Brisbane boy repelled Rory McIlroy for Open Championship glory at St Andrews in 2022.

Smith remains a threat in the year to come, but perhaps Jason Day has more Major success in him. With serious fitness issues seemingly behind him, the 37-year-old is approaching the new year with confidence.

Plenty of encouragement from 2024 campaign

Jason Day finished in sixth place alongside Lydia Ko in their Grant Thornton Invitational title defence. Day did not manage to win a tournament in 2024, but he can take heart from how solidly he has played.

Day stayed in the top 50 of the world rankings all year. The former world number one started 2024 with tenth place in The Sentry, then posted a further five top-ten finishes, with the highlight being fourth place in the Wells Fargo Championship.

Day's first Major challenge of 2025 will be the Masters at Augusta National, Georgia. He can be backed at 61.00 to claim the famous Green Jacket for the first time. He will be making his 14th Augusta appearance, so can draw on a huge bank of course experience, and the Queenslander has three top-fives on his Masters record.

US Open record shows he can handle that test

That bright effort in the Wells Fargo Championship in May bodes well for Day's chances of making an impact in the US PGA Championship in the same month in 2025. Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the venue for both events.

Day can be backed at 76.00 for US PGA glory at Quail Hollow. The US PGA is the one Major he has won before - a three-shot triumph at Whistling Straits in 2015.

Day can also have high hopes of contending in the US Open at Oakmont Country Club in June. He is 56.00 for victory. This gritty character has twice finished US Open runner-up, proving he can hold himself together in the most demanding assignment of them all. He finished tied for eighth place the last time Oakmont was used for a Major - the 2016 US Open.

Open Championship may prove toughest gig

The final Major of 2025 may give Day most problems. He is 91.00 for Open Championship glory at Royal Portrush in July. The Open is the Major in which Day has found it most difficult to get into contention.

The 13-time PGA Tour champion has threatened the Claret Jug in two occasions - when fourth at St Andrews in 2015, then when tied second at Royal Liverpool in 2023. There was a three-man playoff for the title in 2015, which Day missed out on by just a single shot.

That narrow failure at the Home of Golf was agonising for Day and his fans. He trailed Brian Harman by six shots after the 2023 Open, so that was an easier pill to swallow. Day's 12 previous Open appearances have yielded just two top-tens, with two missed cuts on his record. One of those failures to make the weekend came at Portrush in 2019, so Day will be disappointed that the Northern Irish venue is hosting the latest edition.
