US Open outright odds: Scheffler targets major number four

The 2025 US Open will get underway on Thursday and American Scottie Scheffler looks to be the one to beat at Oakmont Country Club.

The US Open is the third major on the calendar and the world’s best are set to battle it out over four days for the top prize.

Oakmont Country Club is regarded as one of the most challenging courses in world golf and will provide a stern test for Scheffler and co.

As is the case with all golf tournaments, they are wide open events, and an outsider can come out on top if he hits top form over the four days.

Let’s take a look at some of the odds heading into the US Open, including those of Australia’s top hopes.

US Open outright odds

Scottie Scheffler - 3.90
Bryson DeChambeau - 9.00
Rory McIlroy - 11.50
Jason Day - 81.00
Cameron Smith - 91.00
Min Woo Lee - 91.00

Scottie Scheffler - 3.90

Fresh from his victory at the US PGA Championship in May, Scheffler will be going all out to win the fourth major of his career in the US Open.

The 28-year-old has arguably been the most dominant player in world golf over the last few years, and looks sure to be in the mix this week.

For once Scheffler had a poor four days at the US Open in 2024, finishing T41, but finished third in 2023.

His best finish at the US Open was in 2022 when he came T2.

Bryson DeChambeau - 9.00

DeChambeau is the defending US Open champion following his victory at Pinehurst in 2024.

The American finished on -6 to take the top prize, and he is now gunning to win his third US Open, after also finishing top of the pile in 2020.

DeChambeau’s record at the US Open sees him either win the tournament, or finish way down the leaderboard. He will be hoping for the former this week.

Rory McIlroy - 11.50

The Northern Irishman is a top performer at the US Open and has finished in the top 10 in each of the last six tournaments.

Indeed he has finished second in both 2023 and 2024 and will be desperate to add to the US Open he won in 2011.

McIlroy already has a major under his belt in 2025 after finally winning the Masters, and he is expected to be there or thereabouts at Oakmont.

Jason Day - 81.00

Day is one of Australia’s best hopes to cause an upset and win the 2025 US Open.

The Queenslander knows what it takes to win a major, having won the US PGA Championship in 2015.

Day has also performed well at the US Open, finishing second in 2011 and 2013, and if he brings his A-game over the four days, could put himself in contention.

Cameron Smith - 91.00

Smith is another Australian who has a major to his name, having won the Open Championship in 2022.

He has also won the Players Championship, and his best finish at the US Open came in 2023 when he finished in fourth position on -6.

The 31-year-old can put himself in the mix at Oakmont if everything clicks into place.
