Australian Racing: Halatorion the one to side with

There’s seven meetings to look at this Sunday including a provincial fixture at Albany.

Race 7 Albany

Halatorion To Win @ 19/5

Race 3 Mornington

Mississippi Maggie To Win @ 8/5

Race 7 Warrnambool

Commander Harry To Win @ 12/5

Halatorion for Albany glory

The most valuable event on Albany's eight-race card is the 1200m Benchmark 72+ sprint, set to be held on a good 4 track.

River Rubicon has shown good form at Ascot this spell and is expected to jump as favourite. The gelding finished third in a Benchmark 78+ contest over this trip when racing first up.

The four-year-old duly followed up when filling the same position in a similar contest there last month, beaten two-and-a-half-lengths having raced from off the pace that day. He should appreciate this drop in grade.

However, Halatorion is preferred with the gelding having been kept busy this spell. Trained by Roy Rogers, the five-year-old had placed three times prior to delivering a win over 1200m at Ascot last time out.

That victory, by three-and-a-half-lengths, came in a Benchmark 66+ event. Halatorion shouldn't be inconvenienced by a draw in eight, while he has won at this venue in the past.

The booking of Brayden Gaerth is a positive and he looks up to delivering a fourth career success.

Maggie to break maiden at Mornington

The experienced Alaskan Storm is sure to have his supporters ahead of the third at Mornington. The race in question is a 1500m maiden contest.

The four-year-old filly has run well here on all three starts this time around. Second of those came when beaten by a narrow margin over track and trip on a soft 6 surface last month.

Alaskan Storm followed that up with a close up fourth over the same course and distance just over two weeks later. However, she has had 10 tries at breaking her maiden and the once-raced Mississippi Maggie is selected to score in this event.

The Amy and Ash Yargi-trained filly debuted with a highly promising half-length third over track and trip a week ago. Held up in the run, she was conceding experience to the two horses who beat her on that occasion.

With improvement expected, the daughter of Pierro is taken to get off the mark at the second attempt.

Harry to triumph in Cup

The penultimate race on the Warrnambool card is the 1700m Daly's IGA Koroit Cup. A good 4 track is forecast for the 1700m contest with four non-runners, meaning a field of seven are set to go to post.

Aaron Purcell's Prospectus has had a busy time of it this time around. However, having completed a course and distance double here recently, he has shown no signs of slowing down.

The switch to racing prominently or from the front has appeared to suit on his last two starts. Registered a near length victory in a Benchmark 64 event here last start. Looks a big threat to the selection Commander Harry.

The selection is usually ridden from off the pace, as was the case when 10th over 1400m at Flemington first up. The four-year-old has shown good form in much stronger company in the past, having placed at Group 2 level.

John Allen's mount usually improves for his first start back and is selected to deliver a second up victory back at a more suitable distance.
