Hamilton hails selfless team-mate

Lewis Hamilton has spoken out about his positive relationship with Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, who will leave the team at the end of the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Hamilton is 6/4 to win this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix and strengthen his position in the drivers championship standings. His title rival Max Verstappen in 8/11 for victory at Istanbul Park and Bottas is a 16/1 shot.

Best of the rest

The Finn is in his fifth and final year as Hamilton's teammate at Mercedes, helping the team win the Constructors' championship in his first four seasons.

He is third in the drivers championship with seven races of the season remaining, having amassed 151 points, well behind title rivals Hamilton (246.5) and Red Bull ace Verstappen (244.5).

Bottas is moving to Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season while Hamilton will be partnered by British youngster George Russell.

Russell will be his sixth teammate in Formula One, after Bottas, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, Heikki Kovalainen and Fernando Alonso, and he has a lot to live up to after Bottas's success with the Silver Arrows.

Perfect teammate

Asked about Bottas's influence, Hamilton told Sky Italia: "This is the first time I have had a teammate [where] in our engineering room we really communicate.

"There has never been any hiding of secrets between us. We are both trying to better each other.

"In the end, we want to beat each other but we want to help each other be the better version of themselves and I have never known that with any other driver before."
