Australian Racing: Hawaii Five Oh can take down rivals

There's plenty of action for punters to get stuck into including at Eagle Farm who are set to play host to two Group 1 contests including the Stradbroke Handicap.

Race 8 Eagle Farm

Hawaii Five Oh @ 5.00

Race 7 Eagle Farm

Snapback @ 6.50

Race 8 Randwick

Zethus @ 8.50

Hawaii for Stradbroke success

The previously mentioned Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m looks a highly competitive affair with Think About It expected to prove popular having won all six starts this time around.

The most recent of those saw the gelding deliver a first win at the highest level when taking the 1300m Kingsford Smith Cup over 1300m at this venue on 27th May.

The extra 100m here shouldn't prove too much of an issue however barrier 12 is a negative in the context of this event.

Preference for this one is HAWAII FIVE OH who gets in off a nice racing weight here with Rachel King in the saddle following a win over this track and trip in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic.

That Fred Best Classic success came on 27th May with the pick here racing behind the speed in fifth in that event.

That triumph should have put him spot on for this contest and he looks capable of providing the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott team with a big race win.

Snapback for Atkins glory

The first of the two Eagle Farm Group 1 races is the J.J. Atkins over 1600m and restricted to juveniles. SNAPBACK takes the eye here and while the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained colt is a maiden after six starts he has proven he is up to racing at Group level.

The selection delivered a solid third-place finish over 1200m in a handicap contest on a good 4 rack at Gosford on his penultimate start.

The son of Snitzel appeared to appreciate the step up in distance when placing second in the Group 2 Sires' Produce Stakes over 1400m at this venue two weeks ago.

That effort marked the pick's first outing in Group company with big race hoop Mark Zahra racing prominently having been given a wide barrier to jump from.

Snapback had only the strong finishing hold-up performer Cifrado in front of him last time out and stepping up to 1600m for the first time he is taken to break his maiden for the Peter and Paul Snowden team.

Zethus for Randwick triumph

Away from Brisbane there's a total of $1,500,000 on offer at Randwick with the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes over 1100m the most valuable race on the card.

The sprint comes up as the eighth race of the day with Spacewalk likely to jump as favourite for the James Cummings team.

The gelding was freshened prior to delivering a fifth-place finish over 1200m in the Group 2 Sunshine Coast Guineas over 1200m at Sunshine Coast in early May.

The three-year-old took a step forward when beaten by a head in an 1100m event at Doomben just under three weeks ago.

While a worthy favourite here, his year older stablemate ZETHUS is preferred having been given barrier three ahead of this event.

Brett Prebble's mount has acquitted himself well without winning in two starts this spell, including when fourth in the Listed Chief De Beers over 1110m at Doomben 20 days ago.

The gelding had previously finished fifth in a similar contest at Hawkesbury and his profile suggests he is building towards a win.

Zethus has shown a liking for this trip in the past while the forecast soft 5 track should prove no issue and he is taken to deliver career win number three.
