The Doncaster Mile is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race that takes place at Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney, every April.

Raced over 1600m under handicap conditions, the Doncaster Mile is for horses aged three years old and above.

With a total prize pot of $4million, the Doncaster Mile is now one of the biggest races on the Australian autumn calendar.

It therefore attracts some of the best milers and middle-distance horses in the nation.

Doncaster Mile date

The Doncaster Mile is one of the biggest races at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Traditionally it used to take place on Easter Monday, but the Doncaster Mile has since been moved and is now raced on day one of the ATC Championships Carnival.

The 2025 edition of the race will be held on Saturday 5th April.

Doncaster Mile time

The Doncaster Mile will be the headline act on a 10-race card that also includes the Group1 TJ Smith Stakes and the Group 1 Australian Derby.

The start time for the Doncaster Mile has yet to be announced, but in 2024 it was Race 8 on a bumper card and is likely to remain the same.

Doncaster Mile history

The Doncaster Mile was originally known as the Doncaster Handicap and was first raced way back in 1866 and won by a horse named Dundee.

The name of the race was changed to the Doncaster Mile in 2010 and has remained that way since.

Doncaster Mile previous winners

Celestial Legend won the 2024 edition of the Doncaster Mile for trainer Les Bridge and jockey Tyler Schiller.

There have been some very famous winners of the Doncaster Mile, with Winx, Grand Armee and Sunline - who won it twice - among them.

Legendary trainer T.J Smith won the race a staggering seven times, while trainer Guy Walter completed the trifecta in 2005 with Patezza, Courts In Session and Danni Martine.

Gringotts and Linebacker are the current market leaders for the 2025 Doncaster Mile at 6.00, with Ceolwulf next up at 8.00.

Another Wil is priced at 9.00, as are Broadsiding and Tom Kitten.
