Aussie Rules: Collingwood ready for Melbourne test

It does not get much bigger than Melbourne versus Collingwood in the AFL this season as third place entertain first in front of a packed MCG.

Collingwood are without doubt the team of the moment as they sit pretty at the top of the ladder with 11 wins from 12 games so far this season.

Melbourne may be some 12 points behind them following an inconsistent start, but the Demons will be hoping to peak at the right time and see themselves as flag contenders.

Defeat against the Pies on Monday could cast further doubt on those hopes so there is a lot at stake in the King’s Birthday clash.

Collingwood have Port Adelaide breathing down their neck and will be out to get the win and re-establish a four-point lead at the top.

Melbourne bounced back from defeats against Port Adelaide and Fremantle to beat Carlton in a low-scoring affair last week.

The victory should give the Demons a boost heading into the game, and if they can pull-off a win against high-flying Collingwood, they could be seen as genuine flag contenders once again.

They have slipped to four defeats already, which has harmed their chances, but there is still a long way to go if they can find some form and consistency.

Melbourne have been solid at home this season and have lost just the one. That was against Fremantle and there was not much in it, just seven points. There is a very good chance Monday’s game with the Pies will be close and Melbourne are priced at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Christian Petracca is in great form for Melbourne this season when rating well regards score involvements and contested possessions.

The gun midfielder is also priced at 1.77 to boot a goal at Anytime during the game.

No stopping hot Pies

Collingwood have slipped to just one defeat so far this season and have won the last eight games on the bounce.

The Pies picked up their latest win in the west against the Eagles last week. They were made to work for three quarters but ran away with the game in the end.

They will be in for a much sterner test against Melbourne on Monday, but have shown already they can roll over the top sides.

Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Geelong and Adelaide have all been put to the sword and the Pies are sure to rise to the occasion of playing in the King’s Birthday clash.

They did just that on Anzac Day when beating Essendon by 13 points in front of another packed-out stadium at the MCG.

Collingwood also look to have the sign over Melbourne in recent games, winning each of the last three.

However, just 26 points has been the biggest winning margin. The Pies have class and quality all over the park, but it is Nick Daicos that is standing out above everyone else this season. Daicos is averaging 33.5 disposals a game and can be backed at 2.70 to produce 35+ on Monday.

Brody Mihocek is the leading forward when booting 31 goals so far this season and he can be backed at 7.50 to grab the first of the game against Melbourne.
